LOL. I felt shame went I read that Rinth is a big no-no unless -you- know what you are doing. Which I clearly didn't. Thankfully my second character was smarter. Never died but I didn't enjoy the concept much. Stored.

I like to think that there's some kind of positive reinforcement when it comes to people playing anywhere.

Place X has no people, which causes the people who do go there to feel bored, which ensures they won't return, which ensures there'll be even less people in the future, which ensures any further characters get bored even more..

I hate those characters. I've played a couple that would do their 'hunting' southside, and I felt like a jackass for even doing that.

But I don't fault the players who do it. Sometimes it even makes sense ICly.

I once sent kudos to a dwarf player expressing my sincere appreciation for a new player putting so much effort into their PC. I went on and on about how I know the game can be hard when you start, but, I really liked seeing someone new to the game give it 110%.

I was sincere and meant every word.

I found out a couple of years later the player of that dwarf had been playing for 10+ years.

On a relatively unskilled character, I decided to hunt some gurth. Found a potbellied gurth, but it kept running away, and I didn't want to lose my inix, so I kept having to hitch and unhitch my inix while I tried to chase and kill the gurth. Went something like this:

You can see why this might be unrealistic as all fuck though, right? Get a mount who can sneak, or do it on foot.

The fact that many -don't-. Many just sneak, with the mount still hitched. So you might see just the mount walking around the wilderness, but no rider (in sight)

One year later, my new character gets approved and I realize I forgot how to emote. Spent the next few days ashamed to log on and reading the docs.

I have to relearn the emoting system every time I come back. I've had a tendency to take a year off at a time over the past 15 years or so.
