What Colors do You Play In?

Started by jcljules, May 22, 2008, 09:33:19 PM

I was just wondering if anyone else here changes the colors in their mud client to enhance the feel of the game, and what colors you use, and why....

This is what I see when I log in

Ouch, that would hurt my eyes, I think, though it's nicely atmospheric.  I play black background, white text, Monaco font.
"Life isn't divided into genres. It's a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you're lucky."

--Alan Moore

I also play regular old black and white, but only in the early morning or late at night

Black background, 9pt light grey FixedSys font.
Quote from: H. L.  MenckenEvery normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.

Dark yellow print on black background.

Black background with grey wording ... standard pack that came with my portal client. Although I might mess around with it a little I suppose ... just to see if changing the colors makes me feel more "in the mood" ...

Oh my god he's still rocking the sandwich.

I never could get used to reading in negative. I have to have a white background with black text. Or, nearly white - I've discovered my client can do variations, which is kind of neat. So it's an almost-white yellowish ivory pale background. Sort of the exact same shade of off-white as the page of a softcover novel.

1.   A biped, ungrateful.

Black background, light grey text.  Rust-color command echo.  Fixedsys 18pt font for 1920-1200 resolution.

Similar shade of sand to you jcjules, though when I'm in Tuluk I try to change it to a more greeny grey colour.

Ultimately I want to sort out a trigger so with each hour passing there is a slightly different shade. I don't know if this is even possible with my client...

Glad to see that someone else appreciates that color for IG use. I always use it though--I like to think of Tuluk as being more  'red' ilke african scrub than green like some pine forest.

My Mantis Head looks like this:

Welcome to Armageddon!
Quote from: Wish

Don't think you're having all the fun...
You know me, I hate everyone!

Wish there was something real!
Wish there was something true!
Wish there was something real,
in this world full of YOU!

Hey thats almost the same as mine!  ;D

Black with highlighter green font

Don't enter the Labyrinth.
They don't call it the Screaming Mantis Tavern to be cute. It's called foreshadowing. First there's screaming, then mantis head.

White background with black text- boring but covert !

I always liked the blue and green fingerpaints; I remember this one time way back when I got a whole bunch, dumped it in the kiddie pool my mom had in the backyard, and messed around in it so much that she wouldn't let me back inside until after I'd been hosed off.

Oh, you meant Armageddon? vga=773
There is no general doctrine which is not capable of eating out our morality if unchecked by the deep-seated habit of direct fellow-feeling with individual fellow-men. -George Eliot

I change the font/background color with each new character for the duration of that character's life.  Especially with new PCs, it helps me remember to leave my old IC knowledge, habits. and contacts with my previous PC, and gives the game a different flavor when I log on.

I'm ashamed to admit that I lived with a hugely messed-up mantis head for a long time because I was using a "pretty" font that wasn't fixed-width.  And I didn't realize that's why the mantis didn't look like a mantis.

That's a neat idea.  I want to try it but I've been using the same back and foreground colors since I started MUDding with zMUD back at the age of like 11 or 12.

Yellow text on a black background for me.

Bright green roman lettering on a black background.

Arm is evil.  And I love it.  It's like the softest, cuddliest, happy smelling teddy bear in the world, except it is stuffed with meth needles that inject you everytime

Sand background, black lettering
Varak:You tell the mangy, pointy-eared gortok, in sirihish: "What, girl? You say the sorceror-king has fallen down the well?"
Ghardoan:A pitiful voice rises from the well below, "I've fallen and I can't get up..."

Heh.

Black background/sand lettering.
At your table, the badass dun-clad female says in tribal-accented sirihish, putting on a piping voice, incongruous not the least because it doesn't get rid of her rasp:
"'Oh, I killed me a forest cat!' That's nice; I wiped me bum after taking a shit.

Erm White on Black..

I don't know how to change it. xD

Courier New, 10 point.

Black background, white text.

I have many keywords color-triggered, so it's like playing Armageddon on acid.
"Never was anything great achieved without danger."
     -Niccolo Machiavelli

Red font on a black background. Gives it that real passionate "ARRR" feeling when I play. I dunno, I just see blood.
"You will have useful work: the destruction of evil men. What work could be more useful? This is Beyond; you will find that your work is never done -- So therefore you may never know a life of peace."

~Jack Vance~

Gray text on a black background, 10pt courier, but I have triggers set up to color things for flavor (i.e. the echos of sand blowing is in a sandy color, the bleeding sdesc modifiers are red, stuff like that).

Black background with green text.  I don't remember if I set it that way or if that's the default.
"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream." - Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House

This thread has influenced me to change it up a bit.  I now play with a greyish-green background and sand-colored text, 10pt Monaco.  Grey-green for the Northlands, sand for the Southlands, basically a good representation of both sides, I think.  Nice and all-purpose and Armageddon-y.

White text on a black background.. Arial 10pt

I've also got around fifty triggers that color important events - disarms, bashes, spell echoes, psionic effects, combat events, etc etc.

Zmud classic, black background, dark green text. Courier 10pt because thats the font I saw when I -very- first started playing and I'm still trying to reach for the fun I had back then.

I tripped and Fale down my stairs. Drink milk and you'll grow Uaptal. I know this guy from the state of Tenneshi. This house will go up Borsail tomorrow. I gave my book to him Nenyuk it back again. I hired this guy golfing to Kadius around for a while.

grey on black. but I have some coloring trigs:

words important to my character, depending on importance
the line with the exits on it, in yellow
any line starting with 'the' or 'a', in dark cyan
my sdesc and name are pink, with musical beep if inactive (I sometimes might do something else if I get bored, so when somebody says my name, I notice)
the words 'you' and 'your', are pink
previous character names, come out white, so I can feel a little special, without it jarring me from staying IC.
"You are very hungry" is orange
"You are famished" is red
"You are starving." is red, italicized, and underlined with a musical beep, active or not.
and finally... all numbers are made light cyan, for those shopping trips.

Amor Fati

Black background, grey text, font: Bitstream Vera Sans Mono size 9.

Wheat, silver, and light pink on black.

And the Nonman King cried words that sting:
"Now to me you must confess,
For death above you hovers!"
And the Emissary answered ever wary:
"We are the race of flesh,
We are the race of lovers."
