I do it from time to time because on occasion, I find an immortal who gives me a role that they otherwise would not post or recruit ooc'ly for.  Just someone who wants a specific kind of player for a specific purpose.

Is that still bad to check up on?  Is that bad to want to do?  Heh.

It's not bad, you are just unlikely to get results from it.  You're better off communicating directly with the few clans (or single clan) you're interested in and giving us some idea of what interests you specifically.
