Throwing spells

Didn't want to derail the other thread, but it got me thinking.... wouldn't it be cool if certain spells (e.g. fireball) could be fired off at someone a room or (maybe at a high enough casting) even two rooms away? Wouldn't that be badass? What do you guys think?
