Pre-History?

Actually, an Avangion is a being of mist and light, constantly airborn, with
limbs so weak it cannot support its own weight on the ground anymore.

Imagine a stick figure body with overly long fingers and toes, a sideways
oval head with two goggle eyes and no visible mouth, nose or chin on the
end of a stalk-like neck.

The body is lost in the folds of immense, gossamer wings and the entire
body glows with a silver and white radiance that can be seen for miles.

It's definitely not something you would associate with any natural world.

Dragons and Avangions find it difficult to take one another on because
their magicks literally bounce off each other--the destruction these battles
can wreak are terrible, so they often do not fight unless one thinks they
have the upper hand over the other.  Since both being types are
immortal, they have eternity to plot.

From the looks of the timeline, the Dragon did get that upper hand due
possibly to one of the avangions selling out the rest of the council.  Seems
plausible enough to me.

I can say with about 80% surety that Zalanthas avangions are different.  Go find out IG what they look like!

The Dark Sun setting is...different.  There were never any great quantities of metals on the planet, one of the reasons that the halflings during the Blue Age had the organic stuff they did.  Athas is on a plane whereby the residents can access various elemental planes specific to Athas (not the same as Planescape's elemental planes).  Other than that though, the natives of Athas have no way to leave their plane, it is self contained.  Although people from outside of the plane can find their way in, and yes, you could get yanked into Ravenloft if you are unlucky enough.

I concur.  I was only presenting the Dark Sun material for what it was.

The fact that avangions require a good alignment alone should be a good
enough indicator of that.  As for finding out IG...I think we both know that
that's a foolish thing to be suggesting.  If you can find an avangion still
living, so too can the dragons, and they should be dead before you ever
run into them.

It looks like a lot of trouble to go to just to get the chicks.
