Perhaps the realy fact of the matter is not whether hit causes you to "brawl" or enter "mortal combat", perhaps it's that there should be more lawless areas within the major cities?

More back alley taverns where the law doesn't go, more rinth like places.

I would like to see more areas where afluent PCs were afraid to go for fear of being mugged. More alleys where people could be grabbed and their goods stolen.

In New York City, if I got into a fist fight in an alley at night in a shitty neighborhood.......I probably would be at little risk of getting arrested.

54th and 5th in broad day light is a different story.....

Brawling should still be illegal in the open roads of the cities, but there should still be a possibility of you brawling with someone else for a couple hits, then both of you running off. Gang attack style.
It would just be more fluid than "kill" combat allows.

Arm is evil.  And I love it.  It's like the softest, cuddliest, happy smelling teddy bear in the world, except it is stuffed with meth needles that inject you everytime

I do not want to see the brawling code expanded into the streets.  Nothing is more irritating then having your merchant being chased around by someone whacking you upside the head all day long.  It would be one thing if NPCs were smart and you could walk up to a soldier NPC, slip him 20 'sid, and get the guy chasing you off your back.  It is another thing if someone can drive you out of the city because your merchant can't fight back and can't find a PC around to defend him.

That said, I really wouldn't mind seeing a revamp of the Allanaki commons.  In my opinion, the commons should be a place full of lawless alleyways, rooftops for thieves, and maybe even sewers for the really desperate.  I think that the line between the lawless 'rinth and the all seeing eye of the Arm of the Dragon is a little too distinct.

I personally view Allanak more like Imperial Rome then like the Moscow in the time of the USSR.  The authorities really don't care about most illegal activity.  They will stomp it out if they see it, but they are not the sort of proactive police that conduct investigations that we are used to.  The only time I see Allanaki militia really being proactive about crime is when the crime in some way threatens the state.  Criminals that avoid harming the state, I imagine are not harassed much by the militia.  Criminals and rebels that pose any sort of threat to the state or align with enemies of the state on the other hand are ruthlessly crushed.  I personally see people in Allanak paranoid about talking trash about the state, but generally indifferent to talking about crimes.  I think that two elves discussion their latest thefts in a tavern would be in little danger.  Two commoners cursing the highlords name and complaining about the incompetence of the templerate on the other hand are probably putting their lives at risk.

No way... Simply no way! It would be kinda impossible to monitor the players making unpleasant actions with the extended brawl code.

Merchant in silks wanders in Allanak. Joe Warrior sees, joe warrior hits. I know brawl does not kill, but normally the merchant would quickly call a soldier for help and hand the soldier a few coins quickly, then 300 coins more to have the warrior killed in the jail for such insolance. Extending brawl code means; you have to wish up every time someone not understanding social differences fists you.
Aide of House <bla> walks towards Bard's Barrel in Commoner's Way. A ranger who's nearly always away from the city bumps into him.. Suddenly the arguement grows and the ranger 'hit's. Normally most of the soldiers would still react, since the ranger is.. eh.. a ranger and the aide carries the sign of a noble house. Repeating - Extending brawl code means; you'll have to wish up every time someone misunderstanding social differences fists you.
..
Instead, if you're into brawling in a place other than the taverns and you also believe it would be logical, do wish up.

Forgive me if someone else put this up, but while all of you are focusing on costly code addition, you're overlooking something much more simple.

Emote it, this mud is about rp, so rp it out, the brawling system already puts a restriction on what you can do as a rper, and you're already left emoting to what it decides you're going to do, you want to fist fight in the street, go ahead, then properly rp the consquences, end of story.

If it is expanded, then simply make brawling in certain areas illegal also, Such as streets, well to do taverns, etc.

That way gang members can hit and run, punch someone in the gut as they walk past and then run away if a soldier sees them trying to start something.

You could die in the time it takes for you to "kill man:flee n" as the code is right now. Implementing hit as in the brawl code you could have some random acts of gang violence that really doesn't get anyone killed.

Proposed:
Think Watched around, there is a soldier on the other ways, but no soldiers towards the alleys, I could slam him and get away if I am real quick.:Emote steps into the Crip, slamming his elbow into ^crip gut, before running off.:hit crip:think Crips got nothing on the Haruch.

That would be nice, smooth, and a lesser chance of the Harucher getting gang banged by the 1 soldier that happened to see it.

I would hate it if the full brawl code was implemented in streets and Tlaloc has already told me no on that, but it should still be illegal. You should get crimflagged for hitting someone in the streets.
