Thieve's tools...

Started by Penumbra, June 14, 2005, 09:23:56 PM

Hey, I just started a couple days ago, and I'm wondering...
what tools are recommended for a thief type character to have?
Rope, for climbing... what else?
Locpicks?
Where could I find them?

The answers to these questions (or at least the question about where to find thieves tools) should be found out inside the game.  Try gaining the trust of some shady-looking characters and maybe you can ask them.

Oh and read this.
The thieve's bible.

Arm is evil.  And I love it.  It's like the softest, cuddliest, happy smelling teddy bear in the world, except it is stuffed with meth needles that inject you everytime

Um, okay... and do you NEED lockpicks to pick locks?

Try to pick a lock without a lockpick. You'll find out that way. But logically speaking - realistically speaking - I doubt, in real life, you'd be able to stick your fingernail into even the most primitive lock and pick it open that way. You'd need -some- kind of device, right?

Welcome to Armageddon!  I am sorry we sometimes sound vague in response to questions such as these, but we are very peculiar about giving Out of Character or OOC information out publically.  Mainly because it's so much fun to discover these things yourself if somewhat frustrating at first, but when you do discover something cool on your own you will enjoy it so much more.  Just remember althoughb it is a game, the Imms have done their best to make the experience as close to RL as possible, as far as how things work that is.  So use Bestatte's line of thinking with your question and in other questions similiar to it, as you more than likely already know the answer.  Again, we hope to see you in the game soon.

Okay, thanks everyone.
I hope I can figure it out soon, because break and entering is a thief's main skill....

Sorry, that was from me. Forgot to put it my username.

It depends on what kind of thief you are playing as to what your main skill is.  Breaking and entering might not be a pickpocket's focus, for example.

Stick close to the people who look like criminals and tell your demand to them.  They will help you.. For a fee.

And then kill you.

Muhahahaha!

Yeah, thats, um.. encouraging?

Well, most people in Zalanthas, the thiefy types in particular, aren't real big on helping people out for goodness's sake.  You'll need to make it worth their while somehow, either with coins, favors, or maybe apprenticeship.

:)

Joking aside...
Don't get scared friend, but don't expect anyone to be friendly, without a reason.  If you are a thief needing tools, you should be looking in the direction of criminals and illegal stuff dealers.

I'm thinking...
take a trip to the 'rinth?

That is up to you.  You can go there or you can get into contact with there.  Your average commoner is well aware there are illegal stuff running around.  There are also muggings, killings, and it is a dangerous place to hang around unless you know what you are doing.  Taking a trip to rinth is a start, but a dangerous one.  And trip is half the trouble, the bigger trouble is to find what you are looking for in there.

Either way.. It is all up to you to decide on the matter.  But don't forget.  You are a thief, there are always better thieves around.  And those guys know where to get it.  Their friends, their associates as well.  You just need to find them.  How you find them, is for you to decide.

note my frantic newb posts (after the good, initial post chock full of information) about how I got my first 3 characters killed by the same person.

First THREE! Jeez, took me a long time to learn my lesson.

A few years ago there was something called the Guild Thief's Cant floating around? I'd appreciate a copy by email if anyone has a copy lying around.

Thanks.
