Dancing in Allanak

So I am a newish player and I have yet to see someone dance. I would think there would be dancing somewhere in the culture, right?  So I did a search and I found this:

Arabet
One of the many nomadic human tribes, the Arabet can sometimes be found around Luir's Outpost, where they have developed a reputation for amorous tendencies with some of the mercenaries. They are renowned dancers, trade in spice, and seem to have a close relationship with the Seik nomads. They claim to have sprung from the sands of the Red Desert.

I think it would be fun to have some dances that someone would do. How does one go about creating something. And then is there like a group of admins or players who approve it before you use it?

Just asking for a friend.

It happens! Just perhaps you haven't been around my characters very much.

Dancing is a little upbeat for Zalanthas. Probably only ever see it during a party at best.

Not that it isn't present, I imagine there is a dancer or two in the Gaj on most busy nights. vNPCs that is.

I've seen lots of dancing, played pcs who can dance, and been to dance parties. I even had a ballroom dance once as a noble. I'd say you can dance if you want to. Read the music helpfiles to get an idea of the music style for your area and go to town.
Former player as of 2/27/23, sending love.

There are NPCs who dance in the streets for coin. But- I'm very new too and I haven't seen PC dance. But then again, most people are too starving, sad, or depressed to dance. Or maybe see dancing as something the poor or nobles do? I dunno this is a very interesting topic, especially in relevance to the many clans/cultures and their view on dancing.

...  I'd say you can dance if you want to. ...

You can dance if you want to
You can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well, they're no friends of mine

Sorry!  I could not resist.  And, oddly, I was just watching the video of it earlier today.

Anyway, I agree with everything else Valeria had to say too.  I've had dancer PC's and taken part in dances at parties and seen dance competitions.  Dancing is more common up north where there's a tribal influence but it can happen in Allanak too.

What if I am already in town? Do I have to leave and come back?

Nope.  "Go to town" is a colloquial expression which is the same as saying "have fun".

Ok, fine. Twister.

What I've seen done IG so far has either been openly gypsy inspired (I wonder why) or has been egyptian/arabian inspired (for obvious reasons, though not to say that zalanthas is egyptian culturally, but there aren't many other preserved examples of dance from 6000BC or earlier, and it crossed over multiple cultures, not just Egypt. That portability of the basics of the style, exemplified in above video almost one after the other, is probably how I'd "visualize" dancing in Zalanthas.

Feel free to post any counter-opinions or other thoughts because this is an underdiscussed topic -- but always remember, be the change you want to see in game also, and good luck!

Dance would be different in various parts of the world. Dancing in Allanak would be completely different than dancing in Tuluk, for example.

Allanak is (supposed to be) a rigidly traditional society. They are conservative and brutal. For example, the modesty of one's attire is considered before comfort, despite the high temperatures citizens must deal with daily. Dance styles that would be viewed kindly in Allanak would likely be inline with both their fashion and fighting style.

Following the documentation that is provided and not just doing whatever you want provides for an experience full of culture and the proper atmosphere. Get out there and dance...like a 'naki!

There might be a handful of PCs who make their living from dance and performance in ol' sweet 'nak you just haven't met yet.  Ask around.  Could be a pay-off!

Very true. As the common saying goes, "found out IC".
