I loved this episode.  I laughed, I cried, I let out a gasp of surprise or two... good stuff.  I think the pacing so far this season has been just perfect to lead into a long, long third episode (rumoured to be 85 minutes) of nothing but the BIG BATTLE.  I lapped up all those little human moments -- Brienne getting knighted, little Lady Mormont insisting on fighting, Sansa and Theon's reunion -- and thought they were necessary to underpin the enormity of what is to come.

I must say that I was surprised as hell by Arya's seduction of Gendry.  Surprised but not shocked.  The actor who plays Arya is now 22 years old, having been 12 or 13 when she was first cast.  I think in the books, the character was 9 or 10 but would definitely still have been an adult by now, especially in that world.  I actually applaud the scene, for Game of Thrones has been pretty sexist about its sex scenes, partially due to the world created by G.R.R. Martin, but mainly due to the fact there has been so much nudity of the women characters and very little of the men.  While the latter did not change here, it was good to see a female character taking the lead.  And, as triste said, the way it went down was totally in character for Arya.

Boy, I sure am glad we clarified how super safe the crypts are.

Now that we know how safe the super safe crypts are,  we can put the people who need to be kept safe there, where they will be safe in safety.

Safe safe safe.

I know!  So unsettling, also they're in the crypts so that's like... creepy.

And continuing on the Arya discussion I was cringing so hard like ah, no don't!  It felt so, so wrong.  Yes Maise has aged but how much has her character aged really?  Do we know.  Just like Dany was supposed to be 13 in those scenes.  It's just a bit cringe.  And I felt she deserved better while the directors awkwardly tried to make her look in control just to do it to do it.

The only person who is safe from the White Walkers is Sam. That first time they looked at him, they were like you are soo useless we do not even want to turn you.

Bold Prediction: Samwell on the Iron Throne, because he is the only one left.

Real Prediction: Tyrion sits on the throne.

Arya is gonna end up dying because she spent all her energy banging the blacksmith.

Yeah. I guess in our modern world, teenagers have sex by the time they are 14-16 most of the time. It isn't televised and side-boobed, but at the same time, in Westeros it seems sorta normal.

I agree at the cringing. I feel like it could have been FTB.

Bold move, doing an abbreviated final season and spending two whole episodes just talking and having people be generally decent to each-other.

I actually thought Brienne's knighting scene was the best in the episode.  (Well, tied for Tormunds utterly ham-fisted attempts at flirting.)  Like, it was an actual conclusion to her character arc.  (So... she gonna die, but I hope it'll be slumped atop a mountain of cloven zombies.)

Also, hail Samwell Tarly, slayer of white walkers, lover of women.  A well-put F-U to people under-estimating him.

When my friend said they treated Brienne nice last episode this is exactly what I said: its just gearing up for a bittersweet death. Id like for it not to be so predictable and to be proven wrong.

Tormund flirting is pretty much every Bynner I've ever seen flirt with someone at the Gaj.  Literally every single one.

My wishlist of people to die is:

Brienne
Sansa
Gendry (because now he's useless after making all the dragonglass shit and fucking Arya.)
That religious guy with the flaming sword, because it never made any sense that gods exist in the world yet nobody is doing shit about all these evil white walkers.

Can we please do a Dead-Alive-White Walker pool on GoT? Personally I'd love to see Brienne become a White Walker.

I'm a bit torn on this season so far.  While the slower pace and plethora of character focused moments is appreciated, the mere handful of episodes we're getting makes that a little bittersweet.  Four episodes remain, and the battle can reasonably be expected to take at least one full episode.  It just seems like there's so much ground to cover after that, and we have 2-3 episodes at most.  I mean, Cleganebowl deserves an 80 minute episode to itself.

Prediction: we lose at least one out of Brienne and Theon next episode.

Boy, I sure am glad we clarified how super safe the crypts are.

Now that we know how safe the super safe crypts are,  we can put the people who need to be kept safe there, where they will be safe in safety.

Safe safe safe.

Yeah, putting your noncombatants in a crypt doesn't seem like a great idea when your opponent can raise the dead.

I doubt it'll happen, but GoT now has the potential to be the first show where Sean Bean dies twice.

I personally felt uncomfortable watching the Arya bit.  I think it would've been okay to stop at the kissing and then let us skip to the last shot of them in bed.  However, that would've been un-GoT.  It's not the most uncomfortable thing I've watched in the show.  I think it was cool how she was right up front and got what she wanted.  I just didn't want to watch it.  And I'm grateful they didn't show more than they did.

I'm old enough that she could easily be my granddaughter though, so that probably has some effect on my perception of the scene.

I really enjoyed the old war buddies sitting together drinking and shooting the shit bit.  I've done the same thing with PCs in Arm before some big dangerous outing.  You know most of them are gonna die and we're not going to get to see them anymore.  I think it's exactly what they would do.  The old vets who know what's what.

Shes twenty some years old, its not a big deal really.

And it was just sideboob.  Do you feel as uncomfortable when a twenty some year old woman has a bikini on?

lmao.

Also, dude... why is everyone so bothered by the Arya scene? Good God, she's an adult trying to bang once before she might die. She's had enough of her childhood/teenage life taken from her. Why not let her have this one normal thing? You guys just want her to be virgin stabby murder-bitch forever. So weird.  :o
And then I sat there going "really? that was it? that's so stupid."

I still think the best closure you get in Armageddon is just moving on to the next character.

I think Daenarys in the books is planned to become a White Walker to fulfill the one prophecy about the Night Queen but the show is probably gonna kill her, revive her corpse, and kill it again 8 minutes later.
Also, I like my cootch to have a pert pink color and nice smell. Knowing my luck I would bonk someone with AIDs, get rotten box, and die miserable.

I expect there to be a double-pronged attack on King's Landing and Winterfell...

Highly improbable but would be a sick plot-twist.
