The first time I was confronted with a deep dish pizza I was.. surprised. You pretty much literally need a knife and fork. Not bad, but... eh. Now the pizza I grew up with, you just dab the grease with a napkin, fold and go.

And Solera, your pizza sounds awesome. I wish I could try something like that. Though at first I was like.. "Whoa.. fancy. Is that even real?"

Its not even pizza anymore, its just "stuff thrown onto flat bread"!

Deep dish is actually delicious, as long as its not Chicago style. I do NOT understand putting toppings underneath the cheese. I don't want to be surprised by diced tomatoes.

Toppings should always be on top. That's why they're called fucking toppings.

But me, I love anything with bread and cheese and sauce. Unless the toppings are on the bottom. Or anchovies. Then I'll pass.

I just don't like chewy deep dish. I like traditional crusts, but... The thickness. Bleh. I'd rather have lasagna.

I don't know why, but I cannot do a BBQ or Buffalo chicken pizza with onions. MAYBE white cooking onions, but the taste of the red onions, to me, does not mix well.

I could go for a nice calzone from the local pizza place I grew up in. For a town population of  "As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 3,231 people", its got a 5star rating with 132 reviews. And many of them aren't local reviews, because they still struggle with how to use AOL.

I might be bloated for a week, but it'll be worth it. And hey, anything to keep creepy old dudes from shouting that as a greeting to me, I'm down with. Well. Almost.

I guess the next time I'm up that way, I'll have to show you and your lady friend my mad calzone consumption skeelz. You'll both be amazed. And appalled. We can get pizza too, and just roll around to get to our next destination.

Oh, Philly Cheese steak pizzas are good too, no matter what LH says.

Cheese, a thick layer of tomato sauce and a crispy, but not thin, crust is all I need. Oh, and bonus points if there's a scattering of blue cheese. Just enough to get a hint of the taste.

They don't have pics of their calzones! They make silly pizzas for tourists and hipsters but most of the local normal people go there for their less exotic pies (such as cheese, bacon, margherita, shroom, sausage, pepperoni, etc) and their calzones. The calzones are all hand-made to order - crimped by hand too, no funky gadgets. Very rustic looking, golden brown crust. When you cut one open, the cheese oozes out. The spinach they use in the calzone is sautéed with tons of garlic. They make their own sauce too on the premises (just like a REAL pizzeria should).

The "famous" pizza in our region is Pepe's White Clam pizza, which is packed with clam, cheese, and garlic, no red sauce. Add bacon and it's a white clam casino. These are a regional specialty made in New Haven at the first (or second, if you believe New Yorkers) established commercial pizzeria in the country - that is still operated by members of the original family.

Luigi's is also a New Haven-style pizzeria, just one town away, a few blocks from home.
