Zalanthian New Year
« on: December 26, 2016, 12:05:51 AM »
Is there an end of year celebration or something of note at the end of each Zalanthian year? I may have always missed it, or just been ignorant of the fact it existed in the past but I am genuinely curious if folks do... stuff.  :o

Within Allanak at least, there are celebrations for a new King's Age (and these do occur IC) -- outside of that context, each 'minor' year is not really celebrated widely, though of course there may be tribes who hold some importance to the passage of dates (how they're even aware of the exactitude of said dates is another question we'll leave aside for someone else).

Realistically, most people are busy just trying to survive, and they don't have the resources or inclination to celebrate a new calendar year -- most people do not even celebrate their own birthdays on Zalanthas (for those who, again, are even aware of when they are), and that's certainly something far more relevant and personal.

From an additional, out-of-character perspective, it's not really realistic given the accelerated passage of time between the in-game and out-of-game world -- given how much time and effort and preparation are necessary to even the most mundane of social gatherings in-game, if we celebrated every new year, the planning and attending of such parties would be something like 25% of everything anyone in a social role would be doing, and it'd lose the shininess and interest pretty quickly.
