Her escort actually ran into the Crimson Wind, who demanded 5k for safe passage from Nenyuk. Nenyuk, currently transporting ALOT of coins, said no.. and then called down to them to say, kill all the Byn Unit, escort me to Luirs, and I will reward you for doing so.

I don't see how Nenyuk thought it had a right to anything from the Byn after this!

Basically, as she was told, you die to protect your contract, that is what you are paid to do. Meza wasn't prepared to sacrifice her unit because Nenyuk wouldn't part with 5k from their cargo, that, could have been sorted out on the other end. To her, her reason for wanting to be a Sergeant, was to protect, guide and take care of those in her unit, she wasn't about to let them all die, for the sake of 5k, leaving the wagon in their position after they were dead. To her, it seemed like a no brainer.

Ash Tried to save Meza even spoke to Nenyuk on her behalf, but it seems they had already made up their mind.

I still miss the fuckery out of Ash, he was so awesome <3

I can't see how that should include being betrayed by the client. Meza was just thrown under a bus by Lieutenant Copper.  :(

How was that a betrayal?

If a wealthy person pays two peons to fight each other to the death in exchange for reward, where is the betrayal?

Maybe it was somewhat of an ego blow, to demonstrate to the Byn how insignificant they are in the view of Nenyuk, but there was no betrayal.

Yeah, it's not really a betrayal at all, the job was to protect the wagon, regardless of the details that goal was not reached.

Nenyuk took a sizeable blow to their coffers after known Raiders showed up to take money and were basically given carte Blanche to do as they please.

It is unfortunate that it happened though.

Meza failed her contract because she didn't protect the wagon. The Byn would have been expected to fight the raiders no matter the cost of losses. She was paid and hired to guard it at all costs, that it was the Byn does.
Three rules of Arm, murder, corruption, betrayal, and the whole situation had all three jumbled into it.
Meza could have attacked and killed, but her weakness was that she cared too much, thus, she basically sacrificed herself, whether it be her life or reputation, to make sure her unit survived.
Those with big hearts, get stamped down on, there is no room for such compassion in the Byn ^.^
I miss Meza, I loved her to bits, but the ending for her was so very perfect :)

The Byn is perhaps the most Zalanthan clan. Or it should be. Absolutely no room for mercy when you fight for coin and those that waiver? Death for them.

However, a good number of those that go in softer often have better stories than the ones that start out hard. Merely based on the fact they have a chance to evolve as a character instead of being the same person they began as.

I am sure given enough time Meza would have turned, become hard and cold as her character developed and lost friends. Turned sour as the world rolls before her, unyielding in its merciless onslaught. And if not? Maybe she wasn't the one for the job.

Just to chime in here, this is what happened with Sergeant Rush. After losing 2 (maybe 3) muls on contracts, watching HIS former Sergeant dropped by a few scant arrows, running half his unit through a roaring wall of flame and losing a few more, only to fail at his contract with no support... it became about his crew.

Sure. He'd assault jakhal dens. Send people to mug aides. Whatever it took, really... but anything that sounded like it'd lose him a Trooper+, he had to be specifically ordered.

And yet, thats probably barely 10% of the reason he was executed.
Get Hard, Byn.

Masks are the Armageddon equivalent of Ed Hardy shirts.

Meza should have ordered her troops back then joined the Crimson Wind on the spot. And laughed in the Nenyuki's face.

Punk roooooooooock!
We were somewhere near the Shield Wall, on the edge of the Red Desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

That would have both made sense and had been hilarious! More coin for everyone, and they could have lied or something, piloted the transport off the nearest Shield Wall and say that the Nenyuki went mad, or everyone was mindbent and couldn't remember what happen while the CW took the transport.

"We tried to stop them but to no avail! The storm came out of nowhere but they insisted that they knew the path."

Mention that by the time the Byn got down there to inspect the damage, some other party must've made off with the coin. Wish there were more liars and cutthroat Bynners out there lol all they care about is their coin and their own, least that's how I see it.

Whatever happened to Xavier?

I believe the sdesc was the athletic, topaz-eyed man. He was the first long-lived PC I saw on my very first Runner. I remember being genuinely really oocly impressed by how tough he was in a fight. Probably not because he was especially tough, but I was just incredibly new. I'd be pretty interested in hearing how he met his end though!

EDIT: And seeing as I think it's been a year since his death, what on earth happened to the byn Sergeant Gore? My character was alive for his leaving the Byn, and his death, I believe, but Vara wasn't in the clan anymore, so I missed out on a lot of details. Either that or I just don't remember after all this time.

Gore went on to lead a small hunting group, effectively a minor split-off of Bynners who had left for one reason or another. They thrived for a bit and grew to about 5 members or so. It came to pass that he got shot down by elves close to the Grasslands, I believe, while trying to flee a dangerous situation.

Post deleted.

Keep in mind that there must be a MINIMUM of 1 year passage of time before you start tossing out character details.  Shai was WELL WITHIN one year of time.  This is not acceptable, please do not do this again.

NO WAY

SHAI WAS MY FAVOURITE

She was so cool and mystical and she gave me a little crystal gift ;_; how could she be evil.

Two of my characters were just utterly intrigued by her.

Oof.

Also, re: Zonin. Still my favourite PK. I wondered why the soldiers were so wary to get involved. So hey, thanks for that. :V

I don't want to shut this thread down.

One year.

You know the rules, and you know why that particular rule is there.

ONE.  YEAR.  MINIMUM.

I wish t was five years just so Staff could post a Bowie song every time someone stepped out of line.

Listen, you can't mention Bowie and not post a youtube of the song. It's the rules.
