How to vote like a pro
« on: October 15, 2015, 12:40:25 AM »
[edit: when I first posted this I described clicking on the voting links on the GDB -- that won't work, you have to type in the voting URLs manually instead :(  also the last two screenshots are inaccurate, but show you where to click at least]

How to vote like a pro [Firefox edition -- the plugin I describe below is available for Chrome, but I haven't tested it out yet.  I bet the steps are similar... maybe someone can let us know?]

You might have voting down to an art (open new tab here, open new tab there, confirm vote here, confirm vote there, close tab, close tab) but RSI is a MUDder's worst enemy.

So let's make this way easier.

First, go get the iMacros extension for FireFox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/imacros-for-firefox/

Click "Add to Firefox", restart the browser.

Now go to the main GDB page by typing in the address directly into your address bar (gdb.armageddon.org).  This step is important -- this is your starting point.

Next, pop open the iMacros pane by clicking this button in the top-right of your browser:

Go to the Record tab:

Click the record button, and then click "No" when the dialog asks you if you want to close the tabs.

Go to the address bar and type http://www.topmudsites.com/cgi-bin/topmuds/rankem.cgi?id=sanvean [enter] (don't use the link on the gdb) and click through to vote Arm.

I believe you'll want a wait of a couple seconds here ([edit: viewing the top-20 list at topmudsites]), so click the wait button and specify 2 seconds in the popup.

(ignore the line that says TAB T2)

Next, go to the address bar and type http://www.mudconnect.com/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi?mud=Armageddon link, and click through to vote Arm.

Go to the address bar and go back to gdb.armageddon.org.

Click 'stop'.  You're all done recording.

(ignore the lines that say TAB T2 and TAB T3)

Double-check that you have it all right: right-click the macro and click "edit macro" and you should have something like this (otherwise, fix it):

Code: [Select]
VERSION BUILD=8940826 RECORDER=FX
TAB T=1
URL GOTO=http://www.topmudsites.com/vote-sanvean.html
TAG POS=1 TYPE=IMG ATTR=SRC:http://www.topmudsites.com/images/enter_yes.gif
WAIT SECONDS=2
URL GOTO=http://www.mudconnect.com/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi?mud=Armageddon
TAG POS=1 TYPE=INPUT:SUBMIT FORM=ACTION:/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi ATTR=*
URL GOTO=gdb.armageddon.org/

Wrapping up:

Right click on the macro (#Current.iim) and rename it to something like VoteArm.  Right click the macro again and click "Add to bookmark".  Specify a "local" type of bookmark, then move the resulting bookmarklet wherever you feel most comfortable clicking it (mine is in my bookmark's toolbar).

And you're off to the races.

There is no excuse not to vote now thanks to CodeMaster. I have voted everyday since reading this easy-to-follow guide. It only takes a second and you're done to vote on both sites. I honestly wouldn't have bothered to vote without it. The guides has won over my 365 votes a year.

I wish all guides were as easy to understand as this.

So suppose you use Chrome!  (This'll be a three-click process instead of one-click, unfortunately; if you use Firefox iMacros is still the way to go).

Anyway, I looked into the recent version of iMacros for Chrome and the installation process is a little too convoluted.  Instead I'll direct you to Chromium Browser Automation.

Once this is installed, click its colored icon in the top-right corner of Chrome.  You'll have a group (called group0) of projects.  Open up group 0 by clicking its triangle and then click the little plus below to create project0.  It should look like this:

Click on project0 and then click add.  Select redirect on the bottom center, and then in the textbox at the bottom left, paste:
http://www.mudconnect.com/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi?mud=Armageddon
Click save (optional but a good idea):

Click add again.  Select submit-click, then in the textbox paste:
div#main center table tbody tr td center form INPUT

Click add.  Select redirect.  Paste:
http://www.mudconnect.com/cgi-bin/vote_rank.cgi?mud=Armageddon

Click add.  Select redirect.  Paste:
javascript:document.click.submit()

Click add.  Select redirect.  Paste:
http://gdb.armageddon.org

Important: Click save, giving you something that should look like this:

Now when you want to vote, you just have to click the extention's icon, click project0 (which you can rename of course to 'Vote' or something), and click 'play'.

It's looking like you'll want to drag in a couple timers from the right-hand pane to slow things down a little.  End result should look like this:
