CUT TO -

DESERT WASTES.

Rocky outcroppings incise a dreary, dusty landscape.  Sparse sands blow across the ground.  Offscreen, we are approached by tired, booted footfalls.  Less distinct is the sound of a rapidly approaching insect, but it cuts across the channels to intercept those footfalls.  A man grunts, more out of surprise than pain, and we hear his blood spilling in the sand.  A mantis rears its head into view, its compound eyes somehow focusing in on us.

Your entries:

  • no lyrics (chanting is ok)
  • short, preferably less than 2 minutes (exceptions allowed)
  • appropriately themed
  • multiple entries are fine!

Too long, but the back half of the song might fit.

really though I'm just waiting for Delirium to come in here with 99999 awesome ideas
Child, child, if you come to this doomed house, what is to save you?

A voice whispers, "Read the tales upon the walls."

There's only one song that would fit well and it's this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bo0ZEMJkuI
"When I was a fighting man, the kettle-drums they beat;
The people scattered gold-dust before my horse's feet;
But now I am a great king, the people hound my track
With poison in my wine-cup, and daggers at my back."

Some excellent entries but THIS is the one that captures Armageddon best. Sun and sand, weirdos and F-Me PCs, combat and celebrations it has it all! (There is even a cameo from a black robe!)

...  Or the theme music from any Stanley Kubrick movie.  I listen to tons of instrumental and classical music, but those songs tend to be much longer than 2 minutes.

Alternatively: Just like, 3.30 minute loop of the Wilhelm scream, with the T'zai Byn sigil superimposed over the shield wall.

No lyrics? Really?

Because like, "Bring on the Night" would be fantastic. SINCE THAT IS THE ONLY TIME I CAN PLAY.

Chanting? Somebody should chant this:
Quote from: http://tinyurl.com/pkm4k2vQuid habet amplius homo de universo labore suo, quo laborat sub sole?
<Maso> I thought you were like...a real sweet lady.

Far From Any Road might fit the mood you describe in the OP.

It really depends on what mood you're trying to set when you log in. Dusty desert loner? Hardcore combat army guy? Stealthy assassin?

Those things are all important considerations.

I would have thought "In The Heat of the Night" is when you loose control boog? Besides Sandra is a lot more fashionable than Sting!

Two Steps From Hell - Dark Ages

Hear that hiss at the start of the song? That's totally your mantis.

If you're making some sort of Armageddon visual trailer thing (based on your other posts and this one, you should!), you should totally check out other Two Steps From Hell tracks to set it to, too.
Quote from: RockScissors are fine.  Please nerf paper.

We might have fun with this, but IRE muds actually do this (have login title theme songs. They're actually pretty awesome).

Saladin's Theme - Civilization IV Soundtrack

Quite a bit less intense than some of the other suggestions, but I think it gets the traveling through the desert part right.

It should vary depending on where you're playing.

Allanak (for obvious reasons)
Tuluk (I feel that this one captures the 'hidden' dark side of Tuluk pretty well)
Luirs (Yeah, we'll skip the intro)
Tan Muark (not too sure about this one, but it seems to go well given recent events)
Red Storm (:D)

Rahnevyn, I have no video editing or artistic skills, but I might take a stab at it. Barring the professional voice acting and the cartoon at the end, I wonder if something like this would be do-able.

Okay, yeah. Breaking Bad theme song all the way. Perfect desert feel crossed with the overall badassery of the actual theme song itself. You know, now that it comes to my mind... You know those random soundtracks that come off in the game Minecraft while you play and some other games? Why can't we have something like that added into Arm? Like once every 10-20 minutes a random song/soundtrack will come up.

uh, you guys, the answer is clearly sandstorm

Haha these are awesome/hilarious so far ;

I'll have to come back. Two pistols and a frontier is pretty rad though.

Just to play at the login screen?

I think many modern clients have sound triggers and the ability to talk to other applications, so you could probably kit out your client to do exactly this.  Or create a youtube video or channel featuring your favorite ambient tracks for Tuluk or Red Storm or wherever for people to play in another window.

For some reason this movie is very Zalanthas to me.  The music also kinda reminds me of the MIDI soundtrack to  Dark Sun: Shattered Lands.

Fantastic Planet is hilarious.  I remember watching it at a sleepover with my friend when I was 12, who used to sneak away tablespoons of his dad's vodka every few days, and we got drunk.  So that movie is forever tied to my first experience with vodka.  ;D

I don't know if it feels Zalanthan to me, though ...  unless we're talking about a skellebaine addict, who admittedly, is a concept I want to try.

Now you're looking for the secret. But you won't find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to be fooled.

Where it will go

Alright, I've just found this album while searching around, and also I heard it's music playing in a flash game I've gotten into. It's an amazing Zalanthan soundtrack.

I love the opening theme for Kenshi.
To me it speaks of desperation, with only the smallest amount of hope in the suspended chords.

I've been meaning to ask about this because I see a lot of people doing it on the characters thread too, when it is a youtu.be/ link instead of youtube.com/watch?v=
does it show for you?
