Met my first zombie hulk.

They're not as friendly as the name might imply.

I had a character who's starting center had an absolute horde of starting supplies in the basement but they never got to touch them due a zed hulk guarding it all.

I ran into mine in the basement of a house while I was scavenging. I turned and ran, but since he didn't have to worry about silly things like 'walls' to get to me, I didn't get very far.

Day 1, updated 1.

The bunker was a bust when I found out that inside the bunker, every single room was locked by an ID..and my single one only granted me access inside.  Very disheartening, because I can see tantalizing things through windows inside.

I struck off south, following the road, and ran into a group of what looked like researchers who ended up dead on the way to the bunker.  One had become infected with whatever it is that turned the soldiers into zombies and I spent a good amount of time running and turning to strike.  He threw some sort of floating robot at me that had these knives all over it!  I managed to cave in his head but just couldn't manage to land a hit on the floating robot.  The thing can't dodge worth crap at anything more than a few feet away, though.  I pegged it twice with a rock and it dropped.

Found an abandoned gas station and holed up inside.  Lots of magazines about a number of topics.  Robotics (weird thing to find in a gas station), Archery, Driving, Birdhouse Monthly..There was some sciency-stuff here as well, which may prove useful.  The dead scientists had these strange things on them that, again, look like something strait out of my old boyfriend's books.

Edit: Seriously.  11 magazines, here, all but one giving me skills I do not have.

Edit: Didn't get a chance to go very far.  Head wound from a zombie bit got infected, couldn't find any meds and died of disease.

After weeks still battling the slimes. The area around my base has become a wasteland of sludge.

And Shaggoths....
Now you're looking for the secret. But you won’t find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to be fooled.

A question I have not found the answer to:  Is there a way to make use of counter space and to actually put items into other things?  The wiki states that "D" does a directional drop, but it seems that was changed.  "D" now drops more than one of the item you have, and if you have the item selected, it starts to disassemble it.

"D" is directional drop. Don't open the menu first. From where you are standing, press "D", then a direction. It will then take you to item select. If you'd like to drop a certain number, first type the number (there will be no indication) and then type the letter corresponding to the item (this time it will show the number you typed in brackets).

Edit: Didn't get a chance to go very far.  Head wound from a zombie bit got infected, couldn't find any meds and died of disease.

As a note, if you have a soldering iron or a knife + lighter, you can cauterize the wound and attempt to cure infection.

Needless to say, it's ridiculously painful and somewhat harmful too, and only has a chance to work, not a sure-fire thing.
Vennant doesn't appear to age because he serves drinks at the speed of light. Now you know why there's no delay on the buy code in the Gaj.

As a note, if you have a soldering iron or a knife + lighter, you can cauterize the wound and attempt to cure infection.

Needless to say, it's ridiculously painful and somewhat harmful too, and only has a chance to work, not a sure-fire thing.

All too aware of the ability to cauterize and it's not 100% reliability.  I lost a fairly decent character when a cougar attack them and managed to get a single hit on their arm, which NEVER STOPPED bleeding, despite spending the next 6 IG hours trying to stop it with a soldering iron and the knife+lighter combo.  Never managed to find/make any bandages.

You can cut clothing into rags and use that
It's a lot more admirable to be strong in a game where strength comes at enormous risks.

Didn't have anything that had an effective cutting edge.  Just a butter knife.

Character: Mara
Profession: Bionic Assassin
Traits:
Poor: Albino, Glass Jaw, Light Weight, Weak Stomach
Good: Light Step, Pretty, Fleet-footed, Quick, Night Vision, Self-Defense (Ninjitsu), Deft

Stats: 8s
Skills: Dodging (7), Melee (3), Unarmed Combat (9) (+1 in everything else; explanation to follow).

Day 1.

Being the silent-maid of death that she is, she strolled into town boldly.  Being a silent killer with a surprise knife and electric punch does wonders for taking out Zed.  Got cornered in a gas station by a pack of zombie dogs..which she slaughtered one by one in a doorway, without so much as a few scratches.  Found a pair of entrenching tools on the stands and butchered the lot of them.  Stocked up on a good backpack and supplies (plus a few manuals) in a sporting goods store, found a house with a horde of medical supplies in the basement, then spent the night in the house next door reading up on the books taken from the library across the street.

Day 2.

Explored the basement of the house she was in and found out the previous owner was a gun nut.  Not much on ammo, though.  Marked the place to come back and raid latter.  A smoker zombie led a pack of other zed in an attempted hunt of her, but she took out the flare gun taken from the sporting goods store and shot her only flare into a car nearby, which lit the gas-tank on fire and blasted the rest into pieces when it went off (not sure what caused it to finally go.  Usually the cars I set alight just burn out).  Hit the jackpot when exploring a humongous mansion just outside of town, butted up against the forest.  A book for every subject, lots of food, space, beds, clothing, and only 3 easily slain zed in the whole place.

Day 3.

Wild animals nearly got Mara.  All through the day she spent in the mansion, she could see a cougar trying to get in through the eastern windows but never quite making it.  A pack of dogs gone feral had settled outside the main door, but had so far only been looking for scraps.  Upon stepping outside, she realized she must have been near a cougar den as no less than 3 of the cats jumped her and chased her back into the mansion.  They nearly shredded her to the bone before she flipped out her mono-blade and diced them into cougar-chunks.  A couple of dogs got into the melee and after some hasty first aid to halt her bleeding, she now has a good amount of meat to enjoy.  Into the frig it all goes.

Met my first zombie hulk.

They're not as friendly as the name might imply.

They say you never forget your first..

---

Day 21

It was a beautiful day - the sun was out, not a zombear in sight.  I'd decided to head back into town to see what the military surplus store had that I'd spied during a quick runby last week.  What it had in store was something I didn't expect at all.  I think she was once a normal woman.  The remains of a tattered airy sundress were still on her, but that was all that was left of her humanity.  She'd become something else entirely.  A massive frame, covered in bulging, undead tissue.  I'd never seen anything like it.  Even her eyes were bulging.. bulging with rage.  And I thought the zombears were scary.. this hulking thing of a zombie took one look at me, one terrfying instant where time stopped and our eyes met, and I took off like a thunderbolt.  I weaved between the houses, trying to get it lost, but it just plowed straight through them like a wrecking ball.  And it was gaining on me.  I had one single molotov that I'd managed to make.  As I was running for my life, I desperately tried to light the rag with my lighter, ending up on a dead-end street.  It was almost on me, so I just turned and threw it - but it hadn't lit properly!  In agonizing slow motion, it flew through the air, just a bottle with a flapping, limpid rag.  Crashed right into the thing's head, exploding into a splatter of glass and vodka across it's forehead, and it just kept right on coming.  I thought my life was over, Frank.  Memories sped flickering across my vision - like the first time we met on our blind date in that little Italian restaurant, do you remember that?  You were so awkward.. and I might've been just as deathly afraid as I was right then, standing, staring blankly at the giant mass of death bearing down on me like a freight train.  Then I went blank.. did my training take over?  Was it the serums that've made me faster, given me sharp little claws for fingernails?  Whatever it was, next I knew, I was standing over it, a crumpled heap on the warm asphault, the bits of that dress still clinging on to what wasn't life anymore.  A sudden empathy washed over me then - I felt sorry for her.. for what'd happened to her, what she'd turned into.  And I wondered, like I'd been wondering over and over lately - will it happen to me?

...

Lying in bed that night, I flicked on the mp3 player, and on came .  I sure deserved a break.  Even if I didn't have any coffee.  But zed's dead alright.. she's real dead.

Started up a second world for new sites to run alongside my other game.  I can see why Firehouses are so recommended.

Also, found myself a flamethrower.  Time to start siphoning off gas for ammo.

Haha! Sokoban and Snake and some other odd game are programmed into the game when you find a handheld game system. Such a nice touch.

Nice to meet you Frank!  Are you enjoying the zombie apocalypse?

And 7DV, that's kind of you to say.  Making up a bit of a story to go along with the game is fun - it certainly lends itself well to that!  I'm looking forward to future versions where the NPC's are fleshed out and become less buggy (ie. actually useable) too, I think that'd really change the gameplay/story aspect of it too.

Farlain, Female Blackbelt.

7th day.

Holed-up in a gas station far outside of a small town, in the middle of some woods.  There's a nearby bee-hive which I raid for honeycombs, plenty of trees, lots of shrubbery.  I've stumbled on some great finds from random corpses, lots of bionics, weaponry, etc.  I thought about setting up shop inside a nearby mansion, but decided it's too large for good defense.  I cleaned-out the library, though, and with the indoor pool it has, it's a convenient source of water.

Managed to partially raid a lab on the far side of the forest and came back with plenty of reading material for mutagens, samples of said substances and lots of water and medical supplies.  I've taken down several groups of traps left by previous survivors (of whom I've seen neither hide nor hair), and with all the great guns I've got, I keep going back to my trusty crossbow.  Anything that gets into melee range I take delight in beating down with my ninjutsu skills and a pair of brass knuckles.

I have a farm going on, with blueberries and hemp growing.  I know where there's a working motorbike, sans a seat, which I intend to repair as soon as I can drag a seat over to it.  Working on building up enough skill to build a nice place and install all those bionics.  I've considered moving into the upper floor of that Lab I raided, because of the extra space and already constructed beds, but I'm already settled into the gas station.

Finally getting the hang of things!...

...Then I try to kill a group of zombies with some C4 I found, and don't realize that activating it doesn't also put it on the ground.

*grumble*

I have managed to blow myself up no less than 3 times when activating a LAW.

You would think I had learned after the first..but, alas...

Oops...

While attempting to raid a laboratory, I hacked into the top level and woke up a turret.

I then thought to myself, "hey!  Now's my chance to test out my new flamethrower!"

..It's been 2 days and the rubble that was the lab is STILL burning.

Since I restarted I've been rather boring. There were three libraries near my start, and after raiding them I spent about 15 game days just reading and only going out for food when necessary. I holed up in a home with concrete walls and a pool, surrounded it with spike pits, and go out through the metal front door to hunt. There's also no zombies in the area, only zombie dogs and zombears. So, commence the zombear killing once again. Next door had a basement full of guns and accessories, so my scoped .40 pistol is reserved for zombears. My last character died having killed nearly 70 in an IG year. Yes, that's slightly more than one per day (14 day seasons).

I found another RV because I loved my mobile RV I modded in the last game, and I'm trying to fix it up. Progress is slow due to a severe shortage of batteries, mostly due to a shortage of aluminum cans. This is compounded by the fact that the nearby electronics store was a total bust. The military surplus store was too. I've been thoroughly shafted on store-loot in this game, but house loot has been decent.

The fire went out, but the friggin' turret was still there.  I decided to just put on all the armor I've got and stand at the extreme edge of it's range and let it run out of ammo.

That done, I raided the first basement level of the lab and came out with plenty of CBAs.  My Bionic Assassin now has an integrated toolset and finger-tip flamethrowers to complement their already installed bionics.
