Action echoes
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:40:57 PM »
Being used to spamming the 'look' command in other games with careless abandon, having it echo takes a bit of getting used to for me.
I was wondering just which commands give off echoes to others in the room?
Obviously looking at another person is one, and I'm sure looking at yourself doesn't, but what about looking in a direction? Looking at/examining an item? What about other commands that I probably haven't learned to use yet?

Also: Is it okay to just keep making threads for questions like this, or should I start one thread to contain all my derp?

Most look commands will only give an echo if you add an action to them.

>look sword (assessing its tip)
>look up (glaring at a passing bird)
>look (glancing around the decorated hallway)

The only look command that will register as an echo should be looking at another person/animal/sentient being.

There are some ways to view someone without causing an echo as well.

Using just the look command, by itself, will only echo automatically if you're looking at a person or mob. I'm trying to think of any other times it would do that but I just can't come up with anything else that would auto-echo without your attaching an emote to the command.

Ahh, okay. Thanks, guys.
I was confused, seeing echoes of people looking in directions, but I guess that was just because they used a command emote.
That's cleared that up!  :)

So basically, only looking at V/N/PCs causes an echo.

Well, you can't actually LOOK at a VNPC, but if you were to emote doing so, then yes, people would see it.

assess -v <pc/npc> allows you to glance at people a little bit more on the down-lo.
I tripped and Fale down my stairs. Drink milk and you'll grow Uaptal. I know this guy from the state of Tenneshi. This house will go up Borsail tomorrow. I gave my book to him Nenyuk it back again. I hired this guy golfing to Kadius around for a while.

But you won't get a Main Description from it.

And assess echos hidden echo... similar to an hemote.
I am unable to respond to PMs sent on the GDB. If you want to send me something, please send it to my email.

I feel silly for not knowing this, but does it echo when you look at another pc's equipment?

Look Amos's boots

I think doesn't unless with another emote.

No, looking at someone's specified equipment doesn't echo. That's how I get around the spammy look echo.

The imposing-looking important-postured man walks in by himself.
look figure's ring
>D-d-definitely noble ring. Definitely.

emote bows to ~figure.

look talia's tttttttttt (because Talia's my best friend and I'd recognize her without having to "look" at her, even if she had her hood up)

>You do not see 'talia' here.
think I wonder where Talia is today?
