Link to Tuluk Social Hierarchy Chart?
« on: May 08, 2013, 05:24:32 PM »
(Yeah, yeah, I'm not a newbie, but apparently you're never too old for some Fae Flailin' . . .)

I've poked around the (gorgeous) new site, but to no avail.  Could someone pretty please throw up a link to the Tuluk chart?  I've got another wave of actual newbies I'm trying to indoctrinate teach, and such a visual aid would be most helpful (kind of like the blind leading the blind, but there ya go).

Thanks!

I'm actually surprised Seeker and Apprentice bards are so low on the ladder. Didn't get that impression in game.

I'm surprised at the entire heirarchy of bards, in comparison to everyone else. Circle Leader is -lower- than a Hlum noble? That's not the impression I got when I played a bard and NPCs were animated to tell about the time they put this or that noble in their place.

For *social* heirarchy, one would think the senior bards and circle leaders are WAY up there. Like - just enough below a templar to make it look good, but close enough to templar that if a templar made a social faux pas, it would be acceptable for a bard to give them the very public (but Tuluki-subtle) social smack-down.

I think it has to do with the fact that Bards generally have a very highly inflated ego.. Which.. I would chalk up to good Bardic Roleplay.

Ha ha, Tuluki templars are sissies. In Allanak a red robe comes above House Leaders.

It it truly -was- just a matter of inflated egoes, the templarate would want to ensure that those egoes experience an appropriate dose of humility. So if that's the case, and those "good Bardic" roleplayers aren't getting a proper smackdown from the templarate, doesn't that make it bad templarate roleplay?

To me, the only way a high-ranking bard would be able to get away with behaving publically as though they are nearly equal to (or even equal to - or even superior to, which I've seen within the last 2 RL years) a templar - is if they ARE nearly equal to/equal to/superior to a templar. If they're not, they need to be put back in their place. NPC or otherwise.

I made a thread in the Roleplaying Discussion forum to debate the Tuluki hierarchy table and the place of bards.

In the spirit of the OP, below Iíve quoted a list of public docs I compiled in 2011 to help players new to Tuluk. Maybe having all the links in one place will make it less daunting.  Iíve edited the links so they work now that the new website is up.

I find this table interesting and useful, including the little details in the text:
http://old.armageddon.org/rp/tuluk_castes.html

This doc is older, but it's one of my favorites with little historical gems hidden within:
http://old.armageddon.org/general/city.html#tuluk

This whole doc is useful, and includes forms of address:
http://old.armageddon.org/ic/northlands/nobility/

The intro and a description of the various bard Circles are important to know for all socially competent Tulukis:
http://old.armageddon.org/general/music/bards.html

General info from the "What You Would Know" section, some of it outdated:
http://old.armageddon.org/intro/north.html

It is useful to know at least the intro and the parts in regards to nobles, templars, and servants:
http://old.armageddon.org/general/tattoos/

This whole general doc was useful:
http://old.armageddon.org/general/tuluki_rp.html

Ö

Tuluk provides a rich environment to RP in with hidden secrets and multiple layers of RP, and for this reason it can be daunting, but it also rewards patience and attention to details (all in my opinion, of course).

Thanks so much, RR.  This is indeed very helpful.  I'll try to spread the wealth accordingly. =)

Egads, after a brief looksee through the historical entries, I didn't realize even half of this stuff was in public helpfiles.  Very good to know.

Just a heads up. The bardic documentation found on the old Armageddon page is extremely out of date. I believe most of the northern clans and GMHs have all undergone document overhauls. This means your mileage with outdated old website docs may vary and could possible make you look very silly.

They are nearly equal to a templar.  They are one rung below in a different caste (or if a master bard, two rungs below in a different caste).  If a templar or noble wants to go toe-to-toe with a Bardic Circle leader or a master bard, please indicate so in a report and I'll make sure you get the experience you deserve.

This doc is already on the new site for the most part:  http://www.armageddon.org/help/view/Tuluk

It's pretty clunky.  The What You Know link has (imo) more pertinent information for people trying to familiarize themselves with Tuluk.

I would recommend reviewing the actual documentation that is publicly available now as the documentation you linked is old (and we've already made other changes to that, most of which are specific to characters that are bards--they have private documentation to go over that):

http://www.armageddon.org/help/view/Bards%20of%20Poets%27%20Circle

We will probably provide a short blurb for each Bardic Circle, but for now that's the up-to-date public documentation.

Hence the new site and the more up to date "What You Know" docs :)

I need to migrate this to the new site.  Thanks for the reminder!

It needs to be migrated as well but also needs some cleaning up (see above about this stuff being clunky).  I'll post an update here once I'm finished with both of those!

Tuluki Roleplay has been migrated to the new site with a few very minor changes.

http://www.armageddon.org/help/view/Tuluki%20Caste%20Tattoos

I didn't include all of the different descriptions of each tattoo for each particular group.  The reasoning on that is that once you know how the system works, you can apply it across the board to all people in that group.  I tried to list the noteworthy exceptions when possible.  If you have any suggestions for this or think it is absolutely necessary to know what the tattoos of dead slaves of long-defunct noble houses might look like, let me know and we can consider it.  :)
