Article: How to Use the Request Tool

Introduction

For many older players, using the request tool is no big thing. But sometimes, everyone has questions, and newbies might need extra help knowing just what's going on. This article was inspired by a newer player on the helper chat specifically asking that such an article be made.

What is this Request Tool thing anyway?

The Request Tool is the primary tool used to communicate between staff and players. There is a link off of the main page, third down in the right colmun. You can also access it by clicking here.

In order to log in to the request tool, you should use the same information you log in to ArmageddonMUD with.

Okay, I'm logged in, now what?

When you log in, you'll see this screen:

Usually any request you might have would fit into one of the Request Tool catagories, and you would only mail the MUD if for some reason there was a password issue that caused it to be impossible for you to access the tool.

From this page there are two options:
  • Seeing Your Request History
  • Make a New Request

Seeing your Request History

Before the buttons on the bottom of the page, you will see a line that says "Click here to view your request history".

If you follow the link, it will lead you to a page that looks like this:

You'll notice there are a number of columns.

1. The magnifying glass column

By clicking on that you can review the entire history of that request, including all responses back and fourth. If a request has not been closed, then you can also send a reply.

2. A column where a red X may appear

A red X will only be there if a request has not been closed, and if you click it you will have the option of cancelling the request. It will lead you to a page which asks for information about why you're cancelling. Once a request is sent, it will always remain in your history. Cancelling it just means that staff won't have it on their list of open requests, and will not reply to it.

3. The category column

Every request you submit will be under a certain category, and the type it was is recorded here.

4. The type column

This shows the type of request it was within the specific category.

5. The clan column

If your request is connected to a certain clan, it will show up here.

6. The character column

If a request is connected to a certain character, it will show up here.

7. Details column

This has the details of your request. If you hover, it will reveal a blue box with a preview of the request.

Also, if you click on the request, ti will again go to the request in full, as if you had clicked on the magnifying glass.

8. The log column

This may actually have assorted information in it. If you request to join a clan form, for example, your GDB handle will show up in this column. Otherwise, even if you include a log in the main body of the request, it won't show up here. Only Mastercraft submissions, which have their own box for a log, will have a log show up in this column.

9. The resolved column

Probably better called the status column, this shows the status of all requests. You can hover over a symbol to see what it means. I have also made an easy to reference image:

10. Resolution column

This shows what staff's answer to your request was. Like the details column, it can be hovered over for more information

11. The date column

This column shows when the request was submitted.

In addition to different columns, you'll notice a section at the top:

You can type in your clan or any text to search for, or select an option from the drop down menu. All matches will show up.

If you would like to reset it to normal, make sure it looks like the picture above, then click "update view".

Making a New Request

If you remember, the main page of the request tool looks like this:

If you want to make a new request instead of viewing old ones, click the next button at the bottom.

It will take you to a screen where you can pick from a list of options:

  Staff Kudos
  Submission
General Discussion Board
  Complaint or Appeal
  Suggestion or Idea
Publicity
  Contact
  Idea

  Bug/Typo/Idea

What do these options all mean? We'll explore them more indepth.

Account Related

Account Notes

You can ask for your account notes every six months. If you are a fairly new player, there may not be much in your account notes. Account notes include how much karma you have, comments on why you were bumped, what sections your karma are in, general notes on your account, and character information.

A request for account notes typically takes a few weeks to process. If you just want to know how much karma you have, a faster way is to log in to armageddon, and then instead pressing "e" for enter, press "o" for options. This will list the current options avaliable to you when you make a character, and from there you can deduce your karma level.

For more information on karma, you may want to check out the helpfile on the topic (you can find the link to the helpfiles on the main page, or type "help" and then whatever you're seeking help on in game -- IE help karma)

Email Change

This changes the email associated with your Armageddon account.

Password Reset

This changes your password, and sends it to the email connected to your account. If for some reason you get locked out of your account (and thus also the request tool), you can send an email to the mud (mud AT armageddon DOT org).

Character Related

Description Change

You typically get two description changes in your character's lifetime, and it's suggested one about every 10 IC years (although that can vary). This is to show the character getting older.

Quote from: Helpfile section
Your description change should not vary too much from your previous description and is subject to approval. You must keep at least half of your short description. For instance 'the blond, blue-eyed man' can become 'the bald, blue-eyed man' or 'the blond, aged man', but not 'the bald, aged man'.

Extended Subguild/Skill Bump Special Application

A special application needs to be made before you create your character. You only have three special applications per year. This specific type of application means that you are trying to apply for a character with an extending subguild (these require karma, or for you to be within 3 karma points of the subguild) or for a skill bump to a character.

Mastercraft Submission

If you are a character who is a master in a crafting skill, you can submit a special item to be made every 30 RL days. You should check out the requirements on this before doing so.

Reimbursement

If you lose an item for reasons that are not IC, such as a crash or a bug, you can submit a list of the items here and details about why they're gone, for staff to review. If your request is accepted, the items will be returned.

Ressurection

If a character dies due to non-IC reasons, you can submit a ressurection request. Usually reasons are related to bugs. The times you'd submit one of these is extremely rare, and likewise they are also rarely approved.

Skill change

??? I have no idea how this works.

Special Application

You can submit 3 special applications per year (note that this is 3 total, not three in this category and 3 in the extended subguild category). For a special application, you can apply for things outside of your karma range by 3.

Special applications can take 30 days or longer to recieve a reply on, and it is advised that a player play something else in the meantime.

Stat Change

??? I have no idea how this works. I know you used to be able to "train" up stats and request bumps, but I don't think you can any more.

Storage

If you no longer wish to play your character ever again, and want a new character, you can use this option. Typically, you cannot unstore a character. Storage requests can take a couple of days to process.

Clan Related

Character Report

Character reports are something you can send in periodically to staff to make sure they know what's going on. If you're doing things that are abnormal or are planning on killing a character, those should go in a character report. For non-leader PCs, character reports should typically be around 1-2 pages along.

Helpful GDB threads:

Clan Page Access

If you join a clain, you can request access to their documentation page on the website. Typically, if you join a noble or merchant house, you do not get access to these documents, as they are for family members only.

Item Orders

This is used for PCs who have to place items orders for others, such as merchants of a great merchant house. If you need to use this, you will know.

Join a Clan Forum

When a character joins a clan, you should ask to join the GDB forum of that clan. Typically, you will want to include who recruited you.

Leave a Clan Forum

When your character dies, you should immediately file this request, so you no longer have access to the clam forum.

Question/Request

This is for questions or requests that do not fit in other areas.

Role Application

If there is a call for a role in the staff announcements portion of the GDB, and it hasn't closed yet, you can apply for it here. You should include an outline of your character, and perhaps briefly mention any helpful leadership experience you've had.

Game Related

Critical Game Bug

A critical game bug is a bug that causes the game to crash. Other bugs are not critical, and can be handled by the bug command ICly, or a question request (if it is a more immediate thing, but not game crashing).

Player Complaint

If you make a complaint against a player, it goes to staff to be reviewed. You can see some of the game rules here which may help you when determining what to file as a complaint.

Player Kudos

If you really like a player's role-play, you can send them praise! You may want to include what specifically you like, although you should not give away who you are or what character you play.

You can send more then one kudos to a single character, but unless they are for different things and there is good cause to do so, you should not.

Question

This is for questions, or requests that may not fit into other categories.

Staff Application

If there is a call for new staff for Armageddon in the Staff Announcements thread of the GDB and it has not yet closed, you can submit your application here.

Staff Complaint

If you have a serious complaint about a staffer, you can send it in here. It will be reviewed by the very top levels of staff, the producers, who will come to a decision. If your complaint is about a producer, then the other producers (not the one the complaint is about) will review it.

Staff Kudos

If a staffer has been really helpful to you, or did a great animation, you can send them praise. Staff Kudos are shared on the secret staff section of the GDB.

Submission

If there is a call for submissions in the submission section of the GDB, you can submit them here.

General Discussion Board

Complaint or Appeal

If you get banned from the GDB for violating the rules, then you can appeal the decision here.

Suggestion or Idea

This is suggestions or ideas for the GDB.

Publicity
Contact

If you want to help out with publicity and advertising for Armageddon, you can use this to ask to join the publicity forum on the GDB.

Idea

This is for any ideas in regards to publicity.

Website

Bug/Typo/Idea

This is for bugs, typos, and ideas related to the website.

Please feel free to post any comments here. You'll notice several sections have italic comments and  ??? faces. These were for areas I wasn't sure on. If you find any errors or have any other advice, it's welcomed!  :)

COntact under Publicity is to get into the Publicity forum.

That would make sense, I was always wondering how you did that. It would be helpful if it had a different name, I'd imagine.

I will update it. Thanks!  :)
