DA:O was alright until the generic "YOU'RE A TRUE HERO! WHAT A TRUE HERO YOU ARE" plotline started kicking into full gear.

And don't get me started about secret prince Conan o'Brien hair.

Except for the dwarven prologue stories, those were actually pretty good, I can't understand why.

Agreed.

OMG that's what I loved about it. You could be a kind and nice hero or a cruel and vindictive hero because Grey Wardens do whatever it takes!
And there was some dwarf smoking spice, and I thought that was so scandalous because I'd only been playing in 'nak.

I liked DA:O. I also liked the Mass Effect series. I liked KOTOR. Shit, I liked Red Dead Revolver, the new Prince of Persia series, and Sly Cooper, too.

Heard a lot of good things about Sleeping Dogs and now I can't get it to work. Annoyed.

Playing the Cry of Fear mod for Half Life 1. Never sleeping again.

All the world will be your enemy. When they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.

It's jump-scare scary.
Also, I like my cootch to have a pert pink color and nice smell. Knowing my luck I would bonk someone with AIDs, get rotten box, and die miserable.

It's mostly jump scares but there are some Amnesia scary bits thrown in that work pretty well.

Mostly I Just think the monster design is fucked up.

Left for Dead is a bad comparison. The multiplayer campaign has a Left 4 Dead vibe in that you are navigating levels with some friends and some guns and things try to kill you. That's where the similarity ends.

Single player feels a lot like the old Silent Hill games.

I wish I could man up and play games like Dead Space without pussying out after 30 minutes because I'm sure that, somewhere in the violence, gore, and screaming, there is an awesome story.

Dead Space is scary. The ambience is easily the best of any game I've experienced for horror.

I don't remember Dead Space ever being scary.
Now you're looking for the secret. But you won’t find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to be fooled.

Scary as in "frightening".  As in jumps out and scares you like a horror movie. Very, very few games are actually scary. Not even Amnesia is actually "scary".

Horror as a genre isn't scary either.  ::)

First one was very scary. Second one was scary.

Third one haven't tried because it looks like they jumped the shark. I miss nerdy Isaac.

An ARG for Bungie's Destiny game just started, even though there's no official announcement yet.

What I find really interesting... Marty O'Donnel showed up on /v/ with an image that is 100% related to the Marathon series.
http://i.imgur.com/5HlHh3o.jpg

Part of Bungie's contract with activision allows them to dedicate part of their studio to working on a Marathon game instead of Destiny, but now I'm really curious if Destiny will have some connection to Marathon the same way Pathways Into Darkness did.

Anyone interested in following the ARG, I think destiny.bungie.org will be the best hub of information.

I still think the scariest thing in gaming is the Ravenloft level of Halflife 2. Especially after you unload all sixty of your shotgun shells into the first screaming zombie.

I only played Dead Space 1. One of the most gripping things to me was the way Issac would cry out when confronted with xenos, or when he goes AGH! as he stomps on things. It sounds so desperate and panicky, which is how I want my isolated protagonist to feel in a horror game.

I heard that Dead Space is only a horror game if you crank up the difficulty.  On normal it's just another space shooter.

I have all the achieves for the first one. I even completed it on hardest difficulty with the starter gun (which is all you need).
