It's the current past-time for some of us  :-\

X-Com was that for a little bit a while back, and previous games.

It'll change once we move on.

For example, anyone still playing the Tropico games?  I've only played 1 and 2 and was very entertained by being a Pirate.  Do the next couple games have anything like that in them?

Always change gavelkind to ANYTHING else, or favor your first heir and give him his own fiefs before you die.
And there was some dwarf smoking spice, and I thought that was so scandalous because I'd only been playing in 'nak.

Alas, that New World: Rise of Empires mod looks awesome and crashes every time I try to run it. Curse you!

Everyone should buy "Don't Starve" off steam now :) It's crazy fun.

Seconded!

Luring pigmen away just to kill them is hilarious. What makes it even more hilarious is how the game displays their name the second they become your "friend" haha. My last victim was Constantine.

I've looked at their roadmap and I think they will be introducing a morality system soon.

My biggest problem now is stockpiling enough food so I can go do things that don't involve hunting for food.

I played the beta and it was fun until it got boring, a day later. Has it become more than 'oh god keep looking for food or you will die overnight' yet? If so I might buy it.

It seems to still always be about food. I mean, I started to stockpile so I could go out and explore but there's only so much you can discover. They've got 6 more updates coming so we'll see how well this turns out. They've added a bit of terraforming right now but its only cosmetic. I think players want to build their own little fortresses :)

But...didn't Christmas just happen a few weeks ago?

Is this different from the Obsidian game that kickstarted a few million? I don't have a lot of faith in Obsidian. They can only blame publishers so many times before it becomes a case of cry wolf.

Yup.  RPS just did an interview with them.  I gotta make a cuppa before I read it though :)

Yeah.  Can't say I share your cynicism towards Obsidian, but I'm glad InXile are doing this one too.

E: Although I really would prefer a proper turnbased combat system.  That's probably just a matter of taste though.

Eh. Torment's not something I now look forward to because of its combat, anyway.

A fair point :)

I'm glad its not turn based...  from what I know of the game so far, it's more about the role playing and flow of the story.  Turned based would stunt this.  While I LOVE turn based, I don't see this game being good for that.
Or you might get me.

I'm glad they're overthinking their alignment system well. Even the original torment has a number of rather silly choices in it.

'classical' RPGs should all be turn based, because the games they are derivative from are all turn based.

I've come to the conclusion that my playstyle in CK2 has evolved to be 'wrong'.  Gonna go back to roleplaying it instead of powergaming and going for total domination.  The game's kinda weird in that it's hard to learn and easy to master.

It could be argued (although I am inclined to agree with you) that this was more a restriction imposed by the tabletop medium than a conscious design choice.  That said, I did occasionally find myself avoiding combat in PS:T because it was bloody horrible rather than for roleplaying purposes.

E: Maia looks like it's shaping up nicely and there should be an alpha release late Jan/early Feb.

I've been playing with the Ck2+ (plus) mod lately, and have found the game much more enjoyable.

One major thing is that I've found they made it a lot harder to engineer the perfect heir.

I tried that and kinda bounced off it due to Holy Wars costing piety (bizarre design choice right there) quite a while back.  I'll give it another bash though :)

There's an event choice in your plot tab to ask your religious leader for permission which bypasses that.

XCOM's "Second Wave" options are pretty awesome.
Paint on a mustache and be a dude for a day. Stuff some melons down my shirt, cinch up a corset and pass as a girl.

With appropriate roleplay of course.

Are those supported or the modded in ones ?

Also am I. Am the only one who couldn't play past 30% of Borderlands 2?
