On a related note, what do people think the average dimensions of an outdoor (but inside the city) room are?  I've always seen them as being around 5x5 meters, but it'd be cool to get some kind of consensus (or even an official staff answer) on this if possible.

Caravan Road is wide enough for two argosies to pass each other.  Maybe that's not average, though.

Fair point.  Assuming an argosy to be around the width of a three bedroom house that would make it around 25-30 meters wide, I think.  That's only slightly less wide than the M1 motorway, including both hard shoulders and the middle bit.

They're boundaries; the space in the map represents the various rooms. So, it's actually 14 rooms from the gates to the water in Allanak.
