I think the resolution of the average eye is 600-720 dpi...so 36ppi isn't even close, if your face is only inches from the screen.

I'd always assumed vision was analog rather than digital.  Interesting to learn otherwise though.  Any idea which hearing is?

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question7.htm

Basically analog = smooth and fluid whereas digital = compressed into a more limited set of values.
Like how the d-pad on a videogame controller only allows it to send 8 different instructions, but the analog sticks can work for any direction.  Digital has to be this or that, while analog can be anywhere in between.

My understanding is probably extremely basic though.

analog vs digital tends to go to the way of the fractal in the extremes.

This made my day as well.

Seriously ... do you know what that woman's answer was when asked why she didn't know where the battles of Lexington and Concord took place?

"I was using Obama's teleprompter."

I was being a smartass, mostly.  Not referencing electronics or broadband internet at all.

I often daydream that 'analog' is an expression made up by humans that describes the sum of an action or experience.  Kind of how limits apply to measured quantities like a 'gallon' or a length of time like 'sixty seconds' and are completely arbitrary.  Everything is digital, once you break it down to the most basic level.  Either something exists or it doesn't.  There is no inbetween.  The waveform that describes analog is just a simple way to describe varied intensity of many digital bits.  Think integrals, or something.

Anyway, that probably doesn't make much sense to anyone.

Ignorant congresswomen/congressmen make me angry and humored at the same time.

Analog refers to technology that uses physical materials to transport information, as opposed to light.  Freakin' newbs.

And there's no such thing is Pi.  That's just something we made up.  Like asymptotes and limits.  They're not real.  They're simply convienences.  Thinking about this stuff makes me happy.

I'm not talking about the same thing Kismetic.  Though, I'd argue that those 'analog' technologies are also digital in nature.  As I stated before, there is no such thing as analog.

I'm amending this post to admit I am oversimplifying.  As a professional audio mixer, though, I am going to say, there is a definite difference (and existence) in analog and digital signal processing.

Edited for snark.

I would like to wear a big, poofy, laborious dress and jump around in front of ancient castles sometime, now. Thank you, beautiful photography.
