Yeah...MMA numbskulls are pretty annoying.  It's just one of those complex sports with multiple layers of appeal, sort of like football (American-style).  For every person who sits around debating the relative value of the zone defense versus the quarterback option, there will be ten who are like, "DUDE, HE CRUSHED THAT GUY SO HARD HIS UNBORN CHILDREN GOT CONCUSSIONS!"

I'd like to see Belfort win, but I wouldn't bet on it because he doesn't have enough tools in the toolbox.  He has quick and powerful hands, but against a reach disadvantage, I think he's going to end up doing a lot of swinging at the air.  Then again, he definitely has a puncher's chance if he keeps it standing...it's not like Silva's defense is 100%.  I'd say his best chance for winning is to keep Silva pressed against the cage for the vast majority of the fight, and score points with dirty boxing and minor takedowns to win a decision.  I don't think he has that kind of mental discipline, though...I have a feeling he's going to come out swinging for the fences and run into a hard right, eat a couple of knees, then wake up in the hospital ready to go to the weigh-ins.

Think you about summed up my opinion on how I think the fights going to go Synth.

I screamed like a banshee. And I didn't care. One of the funnest knockouts ever.

I am so STOKED for Penn versus Fitch. Jon Fitch is one of my favorites, ever. People bitch that he never finishes fights, but man, they are always, always exciting to me. Always. *excited*

I also like Paulo Thiago, too, but he's injured. :(

THREAD NECRO.

We had some grappling fun today.

I'm trying to coach the poor LCpl in the background, but he is unable to heed my words of wisdom.

Me and an instructor. (He's the black belt.)
And then I sat there going "really? that was it? that's so stupid."

I still think the best closure you get in Armageddon is just moving on to the next character.

Oh man, you're lucky he didn't know what he was doing in that first video.  Crossing your ankles when you take the back is a huge mistake.  Once someone pulls the counter on you once, you will never do it again...it's that painful.

Also, in the third one...repeat after me:  "Never one arm in, one arm out."  Repeat that to yourself 100 times every day before you start rolling.  If you make it second nature, your chances of being triangle choked go down like 90%.

Gracie's kids did a nice video about back mounts and stuff. It's on mma-scraps, I think. Or mma-tko. I don't remember which.

No problem! I loved it, even though they were a little ... just, too happy! Haha.

Jon Jones or Shogun?! Manboog thinks Bones. I'm thinking Shogun, just because of his experience level.

We had some grappling fun today.

In some of the grappling postures, the throat and/or groin look vulnerable to a strike.  Am I wrong?  Or am I right, but teh grapping teaches other valuable stuff notwithstanding?
The sword is sharp, the spear is long,
The arrow swift, the Gate is strong.
The heart is bold that looks on gold;
The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong.

You are not wrong. We were not striking, however.

Rua took Jones further than anyone else, but y'know--still got decimated. That was kind of depressing.

I don't really mind. Manboog does. Anyway, I've gotten sick every time I've tried to sit at B-Dubs lately and so I don't go out to watch it. On those MMA sites I link they usually post the fights later, so then I watch them.

I really wonder how much of it is his trollish stature. The LHW division has gone through some radical changes within the last couple of years--I wonder if Jones will last. Our last two Champs had a legitimately dominant challenging performance just like Jones did.

Yeah. Rua was AMAZING against Machida and I really thought it'd be -that- Rua, the Rua of Yore, coming out to lay the smacketh down, but ... alas. :/

Hey. Heyyy. Hey.

I root for him because he's from my area of upstate NY and ... he ... um. He was the best choice on his season of the Ultimate Fighter! Don't hate on puffy lips. :(

Silva's gotta get Georgy Porgy out of the way first.
