I totally play this game, but I probably won't do it online until multiplayer survival mode is available.  My favorite build is elaborate defensive structures... but if you don't get attacked... yeah.  Bring on the zombies.

Play it. Love it.  Also been turning on others too it.

Notch is a crazy success story and he made a damn fun game that it seems everyone can get into.

Check out youtube vids to get an idea and if you got $13 buy it while it's in alpha.  You won't regret it (well maybe, but I doubt it).

I absolutely love this game, but I'm really waiting for Multiplayer Survival, because Creation is kinda fun and interesting, but I want RP-style permadeath Survival Mode where all blocks take gravity into account (because building a sky fortress to escape the skeletons sounds kinda ridiculous)

So, at the risk of dredging up a dying thread...

My Minecraft game finally got interesting.

After a series of days spent shoring up my mountain fortress, exploring, building up, etc., I tentatively started digging in earnest. Two things - my fort is large enough now for monsters to spawn inside of it, so I have a series of doors blocking hallways and various access points, and several "safe rooms." While digging, suspecting I was near a cavern given the rushing water I could hear, I gave up my typically orderly staircase style and went straight down - and broke through, fell into an underground river, and was rushed away underwater. By spamming blocks frantically I managed to get out of the river, then dammed it up and started to explore. The river led into a huge underground cavern, what must have been a lake until I had dammed it up, and a series of waterfalls (which I made into staircases.) Further exploration is warranted, but I chickened out short of exploring it all just yet, though there were no signs then of the undead.

I decided to spend a few days and nights topside, namely - building a floating glass fortress above the tree line, which worked fantastically until a horde of undead pigmen, skeletons, zombies and creepers took up residence beneath it... before I could get my cactus farm started. Long story short, there was a gigantic explosion. A good portion of my forest, and the large desert stretching across most of the map, is now a giant crater. I had to rebuild the glass fort out of stone, at least most of the floor. I did, however, get to produce some TNT out of all the creeper droppings.

Plans? More TNT, blast the top off the mountain my fort sits on (without damaging my fort beneath it). Build a cactus garden moat, mass produce more glass, then head back down into that cavern to explore. If needed, flood the cavern first to remove any baddies. Build portal. Go to Hell.

I approve this thread.

Minecraft is an amazing game, relying on gameplay and not on graphics or gimmicky storylines.

Drift mining is your friend. Also, label EVERYTHING in your mines. Getting lost sucks butts.

In other news, my friends and I built a geometrically perfect hollow pyramid out of sand suspended by stone. We decided that wasn't enough though, so we dug an inverted pyramid beneath it. A narrow glass catwalk extends to the floating nethergate in the dead center.

edit: and some quick maths put it at approximately 1/3rd the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza. WE NEED TO BUILD IT BIGGER.

Best game EVER.  Once multiplayer survival mode is working as intended, I'm going to set up a dedicated server for Arm players.  :D

So there's no multiplayer on this yet?  I want to build Zalanthas with some Armers.  Now that'd be hella fun.

There's multiplayer decorate and SMP, but SMP is no damage atm.

Heh.

I've never played minecraft and only know a little bit about it.  I was hoping you could explain what SMP is and why it is 'no damage.'  The wiki article doesn't mention SMP.  I'm guessing that's Survival Multi Player?
I'm trying to get some idea on how the game is developing.  Do you think it will be possible to have customizable multiplayer worlds with all the features (blocks, monsters, etc.) at some point, or is it the intent of the developer to have all that going on a single, MMO-style server?

Yep, SMP does indeed mean survival multiplayer.  Presently, it does not support damage, meaning you cannot get hurt, monsters do not spawn, and you cannot kill cows/chickens/etc.  Most of the other features, such as crafting and mining, however, are supported.  Also, there is an annoying glitch, I've noticed, that makes it so that sometimes you have to destroy a block twice before it actually goes away.

I threw up a temporary server today and toyed around with it a bit.

You actually can enable monster spawning in multiplayer, you just won't be able to kill them directly. The only way to kill anything in multiplayer, at the moment, is to use flint and steel to light the ground beneath it on fire and hope it catches.

I got this about a week ago.

It's crazy addicting.

It's like a first-person Dwarf Fortress.

I made a server and me and my friend spent like 6 hours straight building castles.

I've made it so monsters do spawn in MP, but indeed damage is bugged so you can't die or kill anything.  Once that gets fixed I think multiplayer will be pretty damned good.

I am going to attempt to monopolize all the wood in the world in the MP server. I will be the server's first GMH.
