Where that thing go?

So there is a mass of stuff on the floor.  I type "get all" and my pc starts picking stuff up until his inventory is full, and I get..."You cannot carry a whatever, you have too many items."

Later, my pc has a couple of pretty full bags.  I type "pour bag 2.bag" and wind up with..."a something won't fit into a plain bag so you stop".

Why is it that when my pc tries to get a lot of stuff out of a pretty full bag (or container of any kind), he grabs a bunch until his inventory is full, and I eventually get..."You don't see anything in a large bag" even though the bag is still half full of stuff? 

He's gotta know that the bag isn't empty, right?
