Truly ancient logs?

Started by Greve, July 08, 2009, 03:49:38 AM

Does anyone possess logs from Armageddon's infancy, before it was even classified as an RPIMUD? Back when the soldiers had bronze swords, halflings fraternized with gemmers around the fountain and all those other things we've heard about from the really old farts. I would be very interested to see what it was like in the beginning, though I don't really expect logs that old to exist anymore.

Some of these go back as far as the Rebellion, I think.  I've never seen any much older, though.

People really need to post some more logs. There are so many huge events that happened years ago, and no logs for them.

Edit: And so many new players *cough cough* who would like to see how these events went down.

I have plans on posting some old logs from 97-2000 but I just havent had time yet.

It is also hard for me to discern what was just mundane play and what might be interesting to other players.  It's on my to-do list and I will try and get around to parsing out logs that may be of interest, sooner than later.

Edit:  One thing that is apparent when looking through these logs... the game is -so- much more stable than it was way back then!  I had forgotten how horrible it was to have a great RP moment be thwarted by a crash and then noone be in the same place when they logged back in (due to each typing save at a different time/location).

Nothing to see here

A male voice says, in sirihish:
"I don't even know what a Nammos is...."

Someone lights something.
The area is filled with a blue light.

Brash and crude, a tall and thick faint shape exclaims, in northern-accented sirihish:
"What ahr you all doin' in the Sun Kang's lands?!"

A tall faint shape says, in sirihish:
     "Nammos here"

Squinting toward the voice, a short faint shape says, in sirihish:
     "Eating bugs...."

A faint shape settles in next to you, arms blowing out a sigh.

A faint shape says, in northern-accented sirihish:
     "Arigh'. Full count."

A tall faint shape makes yipping and barking noises.

A short faint shape says, in sirihish:
"Who's asking us what we're doing in the Sun kings lands, this um...this ain't a joking matter..at all."

A faint shape says, in northern-accented sirihish:
"Stop practicin' your sex magick, Omash."

With a faint sigh, a short faint shape says, in sirihish:
"Please, Idiots...don' make me cut your necks."

Idly, a faint shape says, in sirihish:
     "Knock that shit off."
"And in her long nights, in her long house of smoke and miller's stones, she baked the bread we eat in dreams, strangest loaves, her pies full of anguish and days long dead, her fairy-haunted gingerbread, her cakes wet with tears."

I tried, but apparently it's not possible to submit logs at the moment.  :(

Keep in mind in the earlier days a lot of us we're playing from raw telnet. Clients really weren't all that common back then. I'm sure someone has them, but they're probably really rare.

You're welcome.

I'm more interested in blue light than Omash's sex magick.

Arm. You have ruined me.

How old is that log Lizzie?
Quote from MeTekillot
Samos the salter never goes to jail! Hahaha!

Plenty of memories but alas no logs.

Lizzie's log is obviously from Tuluk, though I suppose it could be a halfling log.

I have just one log I'd love to share but I cannot because reasons. :(
All the world will be your enemy. When they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.

Some of those logs are great. Others sound like they're speaking awful-English and I LOVE it.

The oldest log I have...which I assume is just the buffer from my client at the time, early 2000's I'd think. Hah. (I miss you, completely unbalanced anakore claw gloves)

Welcome to Armageddon!

Aww man. Whoever bumped this thread made me think jcljules was back. That person was great.

I thought I had some decently old logs...but it turns out my idea of a "log" pre-mudding-clients was to manually copy people's mdescs and save them.  I did find these two gems, though, both from about 2000-2001:

Caravan Road [NEW]
A kank stands here, its yellow shell mottled with dust.
The dreadlocked, freckled man is standing here.
The small, solemn-eyed girl is standing here.
The tall almond-eyed human is standing here.
A grey kank is reclining here.
The immense, well-toned man is standing here.
A yellow kank is reclining here.
A yellow kank is reclining here.
The young, pony-tailed man is standing here.
A grey kank is reclining here.
The emerald-eyed, white-haired man is standing here.
A greenish-brown kank is reclining here.
A yellow kank is reclining here.
The tall, tanned human man is standing here.

The gaunt, white-haired man says to you, in sirihish:
"I'm Sargax Kurac, as ye likely know."

You know I think if James simply retitled his thread "Cheese" and apologized for his first post being off-topic, all problems would be solved.

I dug through my logs, and here's the oldest I have, from the HRPT war for Tuluk.

Fun fact, this battle is related from the perspective of a runner in original submissions: Scaien Wall, The by Gorbei
I was playing the Sergeant "Steiner", but the story makes him sound way cooler.

[Edited massive amounts of movement spam getting up north and finally to meet with rebel forces.]

To the south is Dead-End of a Smooth, Sandstone Road.
[Very far]
A yellow kank stands here, carrying the short woman wearing a faded red and white veil on his back.
The bushy-bearded, blue-eyed man is standing here.
A grey kank stands here, carrying the short and thick man wearing a dusty faded red and white veil on his back.
A rag-tag unit of ten soldiers stands here in loose formation.
A unit of tribal-looking humans is in loose formation here.
A unit of tribal-looking humans is in loose formation here.
A unit of mutated humanoids are standing here.
A unit of mutated humanoids are standing here.
A unit of mutated humanoids are standing here.
A grey kank stands here, carrying the short figure in a dusty hooded, brown sandcloth windcloak on his back.
The short figure in a hooded, sunburst-crested, black and red greatcloak is standing here.
A light greenish-brown kank stands here, clacking its pincers.
A wild kank stands here, carrying the short figure in a dusty hooded, gray sandcloth windcloak on his back.
A gargantuan lizard with glossy black scales stands here foraging for food.
The gigantic and obese man wearing a black leather and sandcloth veil is standing here.
A light greenish-brown kank is reclining here.
[Far]
Nothing.
[Near]
A unit of Allanaki half-giant infantry stands in formation here.

A crew of scruffy humanoid slaves is here, working on the great wall.
A fenced-in vineyard lies nestled against the Scaien wall.
A tall wooden pole is here, a jade-cross Allanaki flag flying from it.

Shaking his head, the heavy, pockmarked man says, in southern-accented sirihish:
     "Look at that..."

The thick-maned half-giant says, in southern-accented sirihish:
     "Um, there they are."

You say, in sirihish:
     "Shiat..."

A human Allanaki soldier has arrived from the west.

A human Allanaki soldier walks south.

You say, in sirihish:
     "We're gonna need more men."
Quote from: BhagharvaWhat you don't know can kill you. What you do know, can kill others.

To the north
[Near]
A lanky, brown-skinned gith is here, humping the rusty brown kank.
The rusty brown kank to the north bleats miserably.

Not the oldest log I've got, but certainly the most significant.

Stepping onto a sprawling heap of corpses, gaining vantage over the crowded street by his position, the bald, birthmarked templar shouts, in sirihish:
"Your...weakness has forced my hand!"

The lean, white-haired young man's gaze is fixated on the ground, his nose just barely touching it.

The stocky, weather-beaten human whitens as he remains prostrate.

The late, red sun descends toward the western horizon.

The willowy, grey-streaked man glances up just enough to get a glimpse of the bald, birthmarked templar's boots, then cowers back down again.

The rugged, dark-eyed dwarf starts a bit as he lies facedown.

The tanned, bleached-haired man sucks in a quiet breath.

Beginning to turn towards the besieged estate, the bald, birthmarked templar shouts, in sirihish:
"And so I will finish what you have begun!"

I had the whole sacking of the Red Fang camp logged from RF perspective but I lost it when my computer crashed....There might possibly be a version on a hard drive out there somewhere. Will have to look.
Free your hate.
