Call for Uncraftable Item Recipes (Phase 2)
« on: August 12, 2008, 04:58:57 PM »
As posted in this thread, work has begun on crafting up from raw materials that do not have craftable recipes.

There are a few things that still do not have craftable recipes that I consider raw materials.
If I get the time to do it, I will post a list of those materials (excluding anything that is not common).

This thread is posted for the purpose of the next phase of the project.
Phase 2 of the crafting project is for clan-specific products that are not craftable as well as basic products that are not craftable.
If you have ever played a Salarr, Kadius, Kuraci, or tribal crafter, you probably have noticed that some things that you offer are not craftable.
This is not necessarily a problem, but it can deprive clan crafters of one of the chief things they picked this crafting guild or subguild for.  (Same for non-clan crafters.)

This phase is easier to go through than the phase before.  Phase 1 is still active.

What I need:

Send me an e-mail at nyr@armageddon.org.
In the subject, please put [Crafting Project] blah blah blah (where blah blah blah would be the item you are submitting as a recipe).

In the body of the e-mail please input:

Short description of the item you have picked.
Short description of the items in the recipe.
How difficult do you think this should be to craft?
Which skill should it apply in order to craft it?
Success echo (to the crafter) for completing the craft.
Success echo (to the room) for completing the craft.
Failure echo (to the crafter) for screwing it up.
Failure echo (to the room) for screwing it up.

We reserve the right to alter or deny these submissions (but I'll try to let you know why).
No metal items.
Limit two per e-mail.  Once you are responded to and your recipes have been completed, you may submit two more.

Post here for questions or anything related to the topic at hand.

Do you also want to know what items would be used in the recipes?

Updated original post to clarify.

Yes, I would also need the short descriptions of the recipe materials/components/whatever you want to call them.

I had suspected this from my knowledge of the system already, but I wanted to post in this thread to address a concern about the speed of this.
I was able to do two crafting submissions last night in the space of fifteen minutes.  (They still must be approved, but the hard part is getting it to that point.)

This will go much faster than phase 1.  Why?

--I don't have to build an item--I am just making an item craftable.
--Due to that, I am not checking values against charts to make sure the item meets our standards for items.
--I don't have to check nearly as much spelling.
--The crafting creation is all done via a webtool.   (If it were not, I would never have embarked on the project.  I have an aversion to building in the game.)
--I can copy and paste the majority of the work.

This does not mean the entire project will be done in a time period that I can fathom or define.
It does mean that the changes can be implemented more quickly than the first phase.

(Also, there are at least two other staffers that offered to help when I originally proposed this on our own discussion board.  If I get overloaded, I will ask for help.)

Are you still doing this?

Bumping this.  I'm still doing this.  There are a couple of staffers at work on some absolute raw materials gathering projects (see:  Vanth's Cotton Picking stuff).

Follow the instructions from the OP if you have more of these.

I have no idea what the echoes or difficulty would be like but I'll try and give a shot at my favorite items.

Clans can give stat bonuses and penalties, too. The Byn drop in wisdom is particularly notorious.

Is there still materials available? If so, I'd love to try my hand at this

If you can find a raw material that cannot be crafted into anything, you can submit it for some potential recipes.
If you can find an item that has no crafting recipe (but should), you can submit the recipe for it with the above guidelines.

I'm taking this off of my to-do list for now, as I have some other things to focus on now that I didn't have to worry about back when I started this project.

If another staffer wants to take this over, they will post here and let everyone know.

There have been perhaps twenty to thirty approved recipes since this phase was started.

Any imms interested in picking this up again? I have a nice backlog of several items for a specific clan that has no clan-specific craftables.
The man asks you:
"'Bout damn time, lol.  She didn't bang you up too bad, did she?"
The man says, ooc:
"OG did i jsut do that?"

I second this. It would be nice to submit recipes for items that -should- be craftable.
Remember, you're never in trouble if you don't get caught!

Besides, the players know best

Anyone still doing this?

Short description - A bone broadsword
Short description of the items in the recipe. a long piece of bone
How difficult do you think this should be to craft? however difficult it is to make a bone longsword I suppose
Which skill should it apply in order to craft it? Swordmaking
Success echo (to the crafter) You carve the long piece of bone into a broadsword.
Success echo (to the room) $ carves the long piece of bone into a broadsword.
Failure echo (to the crafter) You shatter the long piece of bone.
Failure echo (to the room) $ shatters the long piece of bone.

No staffer has claimed it, but even so, that isn't really what this project was about (nor does it follow the instructions).  This was only for Salarr, Kadius, Kurac, and tribals.
