Because people are lazy, or too busy scraping bowls to vote! GASP!

They just need to be reminded is all. Delayed reaction times and what not.

I must admit that the Achaea intro video is pretty cool and instructive if its your first time playing muds.

Snowboarding is hard, and your ankles never feel like they're in a comfortable position, and your calves are constantly under stress.

And you fall down every 20 feet until you get apprentice level. And once you're decent you star soaring down the mountain, feeling awesome, then you suddenly remember you have no idea how to turn and slow down without falling... But you're going 100mph and that's really going to hurt... But you're still accelerating so you better do it before stopping will REALLY hurt you. So now you're just falling every 40 feet.

Took me until my third day before I was able to get down the hill without falling more than once, then I stopped and never boarded again for a couple years, and it felt like the process started all over again.

Don't worry Malken, I with you.

Hahah yeah.. The only time I actually managed to stay on for more than a minute I went straight down the slope feeling like I was going 0 to 250 mph in one second.. I vaguely remember yelling Ohhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiiit! to my friend before tossing myself into the snow as the only mean of breaking I was capable of.

Eh. I tried out some other MUDs to see how they were so high in rankings and some of them grant in-game incentives for voting, which seems a bit bogus.

And I also think some of them use bots or something to vote themselves up.

How are we so far down the list in the voting rankings?

I have never played any other MUD, but I just read through some of the websites for the others just out of curiosity...To see how they could be beating us.

So bad as to make me kind of embarrassed to read their webpages. I mean reading some of them actually made me sort of cringe. The same way you cringe when you watch the special Olympics. You want to be polite, but no amount of you biting the inside of your cheek is going to make that high dive competition any less funny. That kind of embarrassed.

Go vote.

I am left with a great sadness that we could possibly be below these people on any list.

I used to play Midkemia a few years ago in highschool before their forums turned me onto Arm. I logged into my character the other day on a whim and could not stop cringing at the fact that I was instantly inundated with tells and whispers and OOC channels and so on and so forth.

God, I been around computers (even as a five year old) since 1995 with a family owned Windows 3.1 that was a Gateway desktop PC.  And also, how long I have lived here in the States.

This would be a good discussion topic if we hadn't been beating all but one of them for 5 months solid (simply by voting regularly).  You don't need bots to maintain voting numbers of the #2 slot.  374 votes over 153 hours is about the same as (slightly more than) 58 votes per day, or 29 people voting twice per day.

At the time of this writing there are 21 registered users lurking on the GDB; it's off-peak and early morning and each one of these people could vote right now (if they haven't) and put us at #10.

We have the numbers to maintain a 2nd place spot or at the bare minimum something in the top 5 on TMS.  Any claims of voting bots go out out the window when we've proven we can hang with larger games on TMS.  Our problem isn't that other people are cheating, it's that we have the numbers to represent our game properly on TMS and we're not.

That is doubly true for TMC. Aardwolf has a significantly larger playerbase than we do and yet only maintains a slight lead over us. Plus any extra players we get from TMC is far larger than what we get from TMS (according to Nyr's monthly reports). TMC requires only an account to vote daily and we were #1 there for a long time.

Oh, and I brought it up once before, but other games only vote as much as they have to on TMS.  Aardwolf will be #1 there for pretty much forever because they have enough players to dominate.  However, they don't ever seem to vote more than they need to to maintain a steady lead over #2.  Same goes for other games.  When we were competitive in voting last year, we had about 500-600 votes by this point...and so did those around us, because they HAD to in order to keep up and compete.

The roommate is not paying her share of the utilities. She can definitely afford to.

GDB what do you suggest I do?

Honestly it may seem evil/petty, but it is the quickest way for her to pay up. I actually let my neighbors use my internet. Every once in a while they forget to pay me for it, but as soon as that password is changed she sends me a text/comes upstairs right away. It may seem shitty, but if she isn't paying for it why does she deserve to keep using it for free?

Always exceptions to the free rule; she is pleasuring you, doing your laundry, or cooking you meals regularly. Then she deserves free internet. lol

And I just noticed I am not a helper anymore. I am not helpful! Nooooo...  :'(

Knock knock
Hi, how's it going?
Good
Listen, I was a little concerned. You're late on the utilities. Is everything ok?
Do you think we can work it out this week?

Hey. It may be a disaster, but its always better to try nice first.

I assumed you already tired the nice approach and talked to her. Which is why I was saying do that.. Sorry if it was unclear. -Always- try to be nice, blunt, and honest first. It may not be pretty, but it's the way things should be.

In all seriosuness Barz is right, I'm just tired of having to hound her.

Malkin's answer is better than mine.
Also you probably were nice already today.

Remind her about the agreement that you two made.  Tell her that you don't want this to become a problem between you two.  Ask her if she has any suggestions to keep this from becoming a problem.  She probably doesn't have anything that'll help but she might, you never know.  If you can't come up with something together let her know you'll be changing the wifi password (and whatever else you think is fair if her share of the bill remains unpaid).  Then let her choose to pay or suffer the consequences of her inaction.

Since you have to live with her, try to make it about the bill and the agreement you have and less about her and you.

Freudian?  ;)

You could always just turn off the circuit breakers in her room and shut off the water main when you leave the house. Then when she asks you say, "They shut off the power? AND the water? How weird! I know I paid my bill..."

Or steal the Waterworks card out of the Monopoly box and leave it stuck to her mirror with a note that says "WTS $38."

But, in the end, I think MH is spot on with her sense and sensibilitiness.
You know I think if James simply retitled his thread "Cheese" and apologized for his first post being off-topic, all problems would be solved.
