Barbarosa Rum is 10$ cheaper than Captain Morgan. And it tastes just the same! :O

This guy is too young to be purchasing alchohol.

Why are these random thoughts not random?

And Barbarosa cannot compare to Captain Morgan's...

But everyone knows the only spiced rum worth drinking is Private Stock.

First of all, let me just acknowledge that I don't really know what I'm talking about. I’ve never really understood philosophy, or understood the appeal of studying it. What little philosophical writing I’ve bothered to read was more for its literary value than its philosophical merit. I’m coming from a place of great ignorance here, so you’ll have to forgive me if my questions are greatly ignorant in turn.

I was wondering if there are any philosophers out that argue (with any degree of success) that man is inherently good? Or at least not horribly flawed?

Popular opinion seems to be that people are bad. That we’re all a bunch of nasty, bestial things that would gladly tear our brothers’ throats out if we had the chance. But if people are so bad, then why aren’t we in a constant state of barbarism and anarchy? Most people who support the idea that people are fundamentally flawed have a ready answer for this question, but the answer varies. Some say it’s due to the rule of law, some argue that we’re already in a state of barbarism. Either way, those who suggest that man may be inherently good are usually laughed away as horribly naïve.

I suspect that man is inherently good because all the things that are supposed to prevent us from being truly, irredeemably bad are in fact man-made. Laws are written and enforced by man, nationhood is instituted by man, restraint and moral codes are dreamed up by man. If we’re so bad, how can good things come from us?

It always seemed to me that you can’t argue that man is evil unless you also argue that there is a divine higher good preventing him from self-destructing. Whether or not there is a god is a different question entirely, although those few philosophers I have read did not seem shy about giving their opinions on Him.

Still, even if there is a god, isn’t his divine goodness filtered through us? He doesn’t speak to us as a burning bush anymore; priests and popes are all human, and it’s up to them to interpret and enforce ‘divine law’. In this sense, they’re not much different from judges or magistrates. How can a pope or law-maker be good, but a person with the same mortal form, the same number of fingers and toes, be evil? How can man be evil, but choose to create and submit to a body of laws that are supposedly ‘good’?

Does anybody out there argue that man is basically good? That evil is a side-effect of survival, a symptom of living on a finite Earth with finite resources? Or am I just plain nuts for even thinking this?

C.S. Lewis wrote stuff, and I suggest to read it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mere_Christianity

to copy and paste from the article, ..."But there is nothing about evil which is not a perversion of something good. That is why, Lewis argues, evil is a parasite in the world..."

The book, Mere Christianity, has been discussed heavily, and I suggest to do some google searches about it and what people say.

The book I'm reading always disappears right before I finish it.

Whenever you try to guilt-trip me into working for you on my day off because your uncle has cancer and only two weeks to live, it just makes me want to work for you even less.

My cat is scared of faces.

When OHST sleeps, he makes a face that looks like a hippo.

People who order delivery at 9:50 when we close at 10 are inevitably going to live as far out of town as possible and order the stupidest shit.  You do not need three chicken, spinach, and artichoke pastas, a greek pizza and two sandwiches this late.  Fatties.

I need a new job.

All I have to say is they have the funniest named knock off brand.  Admiral Nelson.  Even has a fake story modeled after the Captain Morgan one.

Firstly, I acknowledge the superiority of Belgoikiss' thread and also her overpowering smokin'-ness.

"I'm guess this is where I talk abut myself. Well I have never really been good about these things. But to start off with, I'm really into art, but most of all I love music. I really don't play anymore but I love listening to music. Right now I'm in trying to figure out were I want to go in life, but lets say I'm not doing so well. I guess that all I really have to say about myself. If you want to ask me anything feel free."

Am I doing this wrong?  Do I just have a bad attitude?

This morning I banged my knee, broke a mirror, and dropped my bank card twice before swiping it on the wrong side in front of the cute guy at the local convenience store.

Today is going to be one of those days.

I used to work a register, and whenever a girl swiped her card the wrong way in front of me I was like OH MAN, SHE LOST ANY CHANCE SHE HAD WITH ME RIGHT THERE.

= RTFT

(by the way, nothing else bad happened, likely because I refused to drive or handle anything fragile and/or expensive)

I had another one,

After meeting people at the APM, all of thier board posts take on a whole new light to me.

What I thought before seemed kind of hateful or elitist from some people now seems friendly and informative. Seeing how people are IRL really lets you realise "how" they are posting thier board posts. I think this revelation is awesome.

All of Ghost's posts now seem humerous to me. More so than they did before. I think I will never stop laughing at..."Eat a bag of dicks".

Real Estate agents are a load of crap.

You dont NEED them.

A Real Estate agent's job is to "guide" you through the home buying experience.

Basically they "help" you find a home, then make sure you fill out all of the right forms to get the home under contract and closed.

It literally takes more skill to fill out your basic credit card application than it does to close a Real Estate deal.

Maybe we needed them 40 years ago when the internet wasnt readily available and literacy wasnt as common place as it is now.

Today, we dont need them. They are a useless middle man that just increases the cost of your home because the seller raises prices to compensate for agent commission.

Just my thoughts on it....

You can get your Real Estate license easier than you can graduate from elementary school.

One of the things I love most about my job is sitting on a bouncy fitness ball instead of a chair. Not because I have to due to lack of chairs, but because it's fun. And it just happened to be rolling around in the office along with all the other random stuff, like the monitor-sized speaker we have hooked up for music.

Bounce!

I find watching a cooking show and lusting after the food they make that I can't eat because of allergies synonymous with porn, and I love it.
