I guess I've never considered those things because I'm cool with them or understand that they happen.

If my kids like the arts, I'll support them. If they wanna cry, I'm here for them. If they wanna be stay at home dads, shit yeah. In fact, I was the bread winner for a while, and that worked out alright. I actually prefer to work!

I dunno. I guess I'll encounter all this as a mom to two boys. Mixed drinks though? People need hobbies instead of criticizing everyone for their preferences.

Oh, yeah, completely agreed. Its just the double standard of "Women suffer" without allowing for the fact that men do.

Basically agreeing with Metekillot on the "stop framing it as a joke or disregarding it" bandwagon. Men are allowed to have their own problems that, in no way, reduce a woman's problems.

I'm allowed to be depressed, hate my body, feel confused about my job and my priorities, and all that. I'm allowed to have my lifemate make more money than I do, I can be a stay at home dad, I can have no mechanical understanding of cars or motorcycles. However, if I do any of that, I'm 'less of a man' for making that choice.

Like ... what? I'm genuinely curious. Prostates?

Men are 97% of combat fatalities.
Men pay 97% of Alimony.
Men make 94% of work suicides.
Men make up 93% of work fatalities.
Men make up 81% of all war deaths.
Men lose custody in 84% of divorces.
80% of all suicides are men.
77% of homicide victims are men.
89% of men will be the victim of at least one violent crime.
Men are over twice as victimized by strangers as women.
Men are 165% more likely to be convicted than women.
Men get 63% longer sentences than women for the same crime.
Court bias against men is at least 6 times bigger than racial bias.
Males are discriminated against in school and University.
Boys face vastly more corporal punishment than girls.
60-80% of the homeless are men.
Women's Cancers receive 15 times more funding than men's
At least 10% of fathers are victims of paternity fraud.
One third of all fathers in the USA have lost custody of children, most are expected to pay for this.
40-70% of domestic violence is against men however less than 1% of domestic violence shelter spaces are for men.
Male fatality rates are vastly higher than women's

If all that is true that is pretty terrifying.

Wish I'd seen this discussion sooner.  Sociology and "social problems" make up my major and I find this stuff fascinating.

Karl Urban was in The Lord of the Rings.

He was a badass Eomer. You shoulda seen me in the theater, though; when they took Eomer's best line of the books and gave it to Theoden, I raged. "Death! Ride, ride to ruin, and the world's ending!" Still gives me chills.

I'm always surprised when I see a picture of Patton and it's not George C. Scott.

I'm also always surprised when I see shows I grew up watching on black and white televisions are actually in color.  Especially the Wizard of Oz for some reason.  Maybe because it's so very much in color!

Every single time I see them.  Both these things.  The surprise never goes away.  Strange.

One of the meatheaded shits I occasionally work with is pushing me to read Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Since he is a moron I am hesitant but other people seem keen on it.

Should I?

I wonder if how humans view dwarves is a fair approximation for how elves view humans: short, stocky, behaviorally intractable.

And vice versa, if how humans view elves is a fair approximation of how dwarves view humans: weirdly tall, willowy, unprincipled.
You know I think if James simply retitled his thread "Cheese" and apologized for his first post being off-topic, all problems would be solved.

When White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer uses the term "Backroom Diplomacy" it sounds like a sexual euphemism.

Elves and human can produce viable offspring, but you don't see any half-gith running around ;)

Drinking coffee in my uderwear this morning listening to Dan Carlin and a thought occured to me.

I have a sizeable library that I have put together through the years and, aside from novels and pulp BS, I have devoured hundreds of monstrously thick history books since I was ten. I wonder how my meandering but hard-won amateur history chops stack up against Carlin's high priced university education.

Pretty gross to see segregation making a comeback in academia.
