Visualizing Zalanthas..

Oh I think it's more than just vaguely sexy.

Quote from: "Tlaloc"Just to note: the picture Matrim uses as a Gith on his page, is actually a Belgoi. I always imagined gith to look more like the Githyanki or Gith from ADnD. Don't have a picture, offhand, otherwise, I'd post it, heh.

Hey Tlaloc.  Actually, the picture I used as a Gith is titled as a "gith shaman" taken from one of my old Dark Sun modules.  If you look at Fnord's pictures on the first page titled "Warrior battling gith" and "bad ass gith warrior", those are pretty standard depictions of how Brom envisioned them to be.  I agree that I picture them looking more "githyanki" like as well--I actuallaly have some pictures by Baxa that i'll scan when I get a chance that do look much more like classic D&D Githyanki and such.  Most of Baxa's pictures i've seen however aren't nearly as detailed, but i'll post when I have them scanned in.

Huh, I've never associated that picture with a gith.  It's always been the standard image of a belgoi to me, perhaps because he's holding that little belgoi bell.  Apparently I'm not alone either because I've found some similar images:

As a side note, here's a site that has some images of standard Dark Sun/Zalanthan creatures (belgoi included):

I use to play the Dark Sun campaign setting back in the day and i've always been under the impression that was a gith too.  Looking at it now as a Belgoi would explain a few things though, like why it is holding a bell...  It's got blue skin like a Belgoi too.  But Belgoi have webbed feet, are straight backed and never use weapons.  Maybe it's a gith that married a belgoi and it's his day to ring the bell?

What i've always had problems visualizing is a carru...

Maybe it's a gith that just killed and ate a  Belgoi?  Now he is trying to figure out what to do with the bell.

Ah, good, a thread to stick this gem by Zdzislaw Beksinski.

He makes many art-o-pictures, most of which are frightening, but this one's just cool.

Today I stumbled across a picture that screamed "Salt Flats" at me:

Someone could probably make some nice Zalanthan scenes with that. I've seen some neat ones for the Cathyle Project. Check it out.

EDIT: http://www.angelfire.com/wizard/atlgentinsav/cathyleproject/plaguelands.html

There's one that might fit Zalanthas somewhere. That's one from one of the Alpha Teamers at the Cathyle Project. Not my own.
We were somewhere near the Shield Wall, on the edge of the Red Desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

:D Hi   How about a sattelite picture of a zalanthas dust storm. Dec edition of National Geographic. (the unrelated cover article is called "new earths)

Wow, I remember downloading an older version of that years ago - looks like they just recently released a new one for Macs. Thanks for the reminder; I'm going to play around with it some more now that I have it again.

Here are some great ones from their linked galleries that are a vision of Zalanthas:

That's not the shield wall. There's not a pile of dead brown-military cloaked people and their kanks at the bottom!

These are good links. And we should also enjoy Riefenstahl's photographs of the Kau Nuba: http://www.leni-riefenstahl.de/eng/dienubav/1.html

I feel this thread should be archived when there's next a period of no addition.

Clouds in Zalanthas?  Cool website though. 8)
That beauty and truth should pass utterly

That sunset picture is really neat, and I've always envisioned the sky to be that blood red colour, and only paler by a little at afternoon and morning.
