Primitive drill anyone?

Watching this guy cut down trees with a stone axe is also entertaining.

To the north
[Near]
A lanky, brown-skinned gith is here, humping the rusty brown kank.
The rusty brown kank to the north bleats miserably.

That pic needs a few broken wagons at the bottom, Delirium.
Nessalin: At night, I stand there and watch you sleep.  With a hammer in one hand and a candy cane in the other.  Judging.

And a Bynner with a speech bubble saying "Sarge?"

From another angle, to comprehend how yuge these dunes are:

Needs a wagon stuck on it, with a big question mark above it. 😆

A hunched gith, in a carru skull helm.

A proud desert elf bares his inked skin

A Soh Blood Feather in battle regalia

An Akei'Ta Var ritualist

A clash under a red stone arch
All the world will be your enemy. When they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.

Modern tools used, but a masterfully crafted wooden kitchen knife is here.

Denizens of Zalanthas have a multitude of terms for sand, grit, and dust, and silt falls within that vocabulary.  The ashy residue chokes the lungs, clouds the eyes, fills the nose and mouth.

But silt from the perilous Sea of Eternal Dust is different.  At times this silt exhibits narcotic and even mild hallucinatory qualities.

The presence of silt also has an odd effect on many magicks, causing them to either become more powerful or fizzle completely in unpredictable ways.

Some claim spice comes from the sea, thrust ashore by forces unknown.  Indeed, it is frequently found in deposits along the shore that generations have made a living sifting, smuggling, and selling.

The sea varies in depth from a few cords to several leagues.  Depending on the state of the moons, the level of the silt may be higher or lower, but the actual maximum depth is unknown.  Still, to allow for the existence of such enormous silt horrors as have been sighted a depth of at least one league would be necessary.

For all intents and purposes, the Sea of Eternal Dust is effectively outside the Known World.

Supposedly, several islands exist within it, but these can't be seen from shore.  Few dare travel the sea's seemingly impassable breadth to authenticate these stories.

It is a source of constant danger (of various kinds) for the settlements dotting its shore.  Red Storm itself was devastated by a tremendous wave of silt in the 25th year of the 20th King's Age and had to be rebuilt.

Beyond the constant storms, the sea and its blighted shore are host to a number of highly adapted creatures that plague travelers.

The silt hawk, for instance, hunts over and near the sea, diving down to snatch up smaller silt hoppers and striders -- but in large enough numbers they have been known to sweep in and take down lone explorers.

Occasionally mistaken for a silt hawk in the distance (a common but deadly error), the leather-winged silt flyer is known to swoop down out of the thick clouds of silt and dust to repeatedly attack prey as large as an inix with deadly patience.

Some claim these creatures alone have been responsible for destroying poorly fortified villages, now long swept away.

From further south come verified accounts of humanoid giants, which are among the very few sentient creatures known to have thrived and existed outside the Known World.  They are rumored to live on hypothesized islands, but since the catastrophic expeditions of Year 35 of the 21st Age, they also inhabit what's left of of Red Storm East.  Few have returned with accounts.

The infamous silt horror varies in size from about that of an inix to some approximation of a large war argosy.  They are most known for the terrible toll they take from the usually stoic and secretive crews of the silt-skimmers.
