There isn't, currently, a way to play a character without particular origin.

No matter the elaboration, or how you attempt to play it through emote/socials, you're either SOUTHERN, NORTHERN or TRIBAL, with a few exceptions that are relatively minor. When I am inclined towards a drifter character, or, you know, some other character who lacks any notable origin or single place/culture they're really influenced by, I choose TRIBAL. However, it is an ocean of tribals, where it feels as if most aren't even really tribal. I know, personally, quite a few of my pcs, especially lately, aren't really tribal, but end up with the label (and Bendune), for lack of other, more reasonable origin options.

Not only does it seem rather disingenuous from an IC/OOC PoV, but it also waters down and cheapens actual tribal play. Where the tribe clans tend towards being unique in behaviors and cultures, the Luirs "tribals" tend to behave like city slickers, except with a tribal accent and Bendune. Half of them wear heels and city garb, even. Yet, it's the "sorta tribals", that tend to define "tribalism", due to sheer volume, and leaves actual tribal clans / pcs, rather marginalized in an unintended way. Weird, instead of foreign, I suppose?

I think a "stateless" origin, with a suitably neutral (for better or worse...) accent indicator, would eliminate a lot of the "whole world is tribal" and let the actual tribal clans/pcs stand out and better define the niche. I don't really know, or care, what origin skills they'd get, or whatever. It doesn't really matter. Something that doesn't lean too much towards city OR wilderness play. Haggle/value, maybe? I don't know, it doesn't really matter, as I said.

On the topic of accents, it might also help, if you're using an accent that didn't come with your origin package, you have a chance to revert back to it without prompting, based on how long you've been attempting to talk like that. Slip ups would happen. Its a bit irksome, imo, how many people tend towards perfection, when it comes to things like that, and it'd also help to keep the trash (tribal/rinthi/stateless) from so easily infiltrating, or passing themselves off as, citizens of state.

ATM, its as simple as keeping your head down, until you pop the accent you want, turning it on, and never looking back. It should take work to get that good, but maybe, not quite so long, as learning a language. Not even close to that, actually. Just not so toggle and forget, with absolute certainty of non-failure.

I remember during my brief stint as a noble. I didnt introduce myself as a true name, but my middle name. Puzzled everyone to hell when NPC guards would announce my name when I walked past the gates.

It’s just annoying when people pick a really obscure character name and then never tell anyone what it is, because we did away with the things that could only be done with “true" names years ago.  So not sure what the point of Type A is and would in fact go backwards in terms of where we have taken code, and an addkeyword nickname is just as valid as a true name IC'ly, just sometimes annoying for staff when name isn't used (since we see your “true” name in who).

FAQ:

Loonsh!  What do the noble houses typically look like?!
House Borsail - Typically very fastidious about appearance, trends toward blond/white hair.  Silver eyes are not uncommon.
House Oash - Typically paler in skin tone, black hair is a typical family trait.
House Tor - Trends towards light brown and red hair color, and men are known to have particularly luxurious beards.  Skin tone varies widely from tan to dark black, rarely are they pale.
House Fale - Go nuts.  Seriously, they dye their hair all over the place.  Eyes tend towards greens and blues.
House Jal - Typically olive in hue, but they tan to a deep, nutty brown.  Often brown or dark blond hair.
House Rennik - Typically darker in skin tone with deep black being a primary family trait.  Often known for their striking amber eyes.

Loonsh!  How many will be chosen?
Just apply.  We know how many will be chosen.

Yes, yes you should, maybe someday.  But that day is not today.  Opening up all houses would have been a monumental effort, and though COVID has given some of us freetime superpowers, it's just not something we could manage strain wise.

Loonsh!  What about the Amber Wyverns?!  What about the Tor Scorpions!?
No.  Ancillary militias are not going to be additionally supported, these will be noble centric.  I will warn you that a focus in your character of activating the Amber Wyverns or Tor Scorpions will be frowned upon so please keep that in mind when applying and playing :)

Yes I'm aware charges are significantly lacking.  O am all the way on the side of the protesters.  The riots happened 5 blocks from me last night.  Bank, post office and gas station were on fire.  Smoke was coming through the windows.  Fire works were going off. I went to sleep to the sound of gunshots.  Last night was intense.  Armed white supremacists were trying to move in on black owned business in the chaos.  Unsurprisingly, cops almost tried to arrest the owner of vegan soul food restaurant Trio who is black and was "not far enough inside the door" of his business on Lake.  Shit is CRAZY here.  Whole blocks are gone.  Ontop of that helicopters and a predator drone could be heard circling all night.  Thousands of people are on the streets. In St Paul they said 80% of those arrested aren't from here. People are coming in as far as LA  to protest and fight.   Riot police were taking control of multiple blocks near me.   That's what they get for murdering people in cold blood BUT I may need to relocate tonight because shit was pretty intense sitting in a studio listening to it all and watching the feeds.  I'm waiting for full on war to break out.  Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I went ahead and put in a nether portal between our bases Brytta.  I don't know that you've been able to get on, but it spawns pretty much right into a dungeon.

Anyone who logs in can feel free to use the enchanter in Casa Val-ika :) With the brewing station, that's fine too, just be considerate.  The netherwart farm isn't fully online yet and with all the wither skeletons the blaze powder is kind of a pain to obtain.
