Title: After Death Report
Post by: number13 on October 02, 2019, 04:30:43 AM
Long time ago, I had a character who used to drink a lot of booze, and throw the bottles outside his apartment, which happened to be a Save room. It was sort of a way of keeping score. Without that Save room of collected bottles, I find it less appealing to spend my characters' obsidian on hooch. I've never had a way of keeping score with spice, and so, even my spice-head characters never really snorted/smoked all that much.

So I was thinking, what if after your character died, the game sent out an email that tallied up your dearly departed character's Happiness Score. Factored in would be the amount of alcohol and spice consumed, perhaps breaking down what quantities and types.

Also, how many fun events your character participated in could be included, like Arena game attendance and festival attendance, just via a staff command to increment a 'happy fun event' counter to all PCs present at certain times and places. The reasoning could even be inputted, for inclusion in the post mortem report, so you could see that you attended 15 arena events, 2 Luir's Fests, 1 Fale play production, 3 player-run drum circles, etc.

Certain super fancy gear could accrue happiness points while worn, eventually depleting of happiness points, requiring new fancy gear to be acquired. Or sitting in really comfy sofas and chairs could add a few happiness points per hour.

It would lead to some interesting behavior changes to have a visible happiness score that ticks up.

....

In a similar vein, you might also have an opposing Trauma score that counts how many hit points, stun, and movement points used throughout your character's life, and the number of times they close to death's door.

Adding...it could be cool players themselves could add to their list of happy and traumatic events themselves.

Mark Happy kanked a really hot gemmer
Mark Trauma got punished by a templar for kanking a really hot gemmer
Mark Happy son was born the hot gemmer
Mark Trauma got tossed in the arena after inciting a riot in the Gemmed Quarter.

You can already do this with 'bio add'

I agree. I don't really want the game telling me when my PC is happy and when they aren't. It's all pretty subjective, and the system couldn't possibly account for all such circumstance.

Imagine, if you will, you just lost your lover to a murderer who fled into a festival.
Both devastated and consumed by rage, you follow said murderer into the festival to seek your revenge.
As you enter: *system message* You feel happy at this fun, happy event.

At no point was

[/As you enter: *system message* You feel happy at this fun, happy event.code]

suggested at all. The post suggested it gets logged that you ATTENDED the happy festival, incrementing your "festival" tracker, which is displayed on your Death Report.

But at no point in the (only) 3 posts was it suggested that the system gives you, the player, any information in the immediate.

I realize that. I was being sarcastic for humorous effect, as the exact method of implementation and whether or not you get a notification when one of these "happy flag" events occurred wasn't really discussed at all.

Regardless of whether or not you get that information immediately, or not until after character death, my point remains the same. The system won't be able to determine what makes a character "happy".

What I really want is a tally of certain information after the character is dead:

You consumed 1,000 fantasy-liters of alchol.

You smoked or snorted the equilivent of 25.5 pinches of spice.

You lost:
30,4032 HP
100,103 Stun
200,324 Movement

You were at or below 0 hit points: 3 times
You were at 0 stun points: 12 times

You attended:
23 RPTs

All of your tallies are believable except this one. Everyone knows nobody lives through more than one or two RPTs.

I'm counting stuff like arena events and Luir's Fests as RPTs. You might be thinking of an HRPT.

What, are you saying nobody dies at arena and Luirsfest events? Cause that totally happens.

I went to like 10+ arena events with no harm to myself and I was at the gladiator entrance to the thing so, it ain't that deadly.

Then you get the event where the monsters get out and....well, those are a bit more deadly.

Flagging RPT attendance sounds like potentially a pain in the ass, since I can't think of any reasonable way to automate that well. Unless you self-tally.

If this was a toggle-able option, I have no qualms. But it's honestly not something I want to see and I don't want to have to go out of my way to not look at it.
