Title: 'bounty' command for Templars
Post by: MeTekillot on August 16, 2019, 01:44:30 AM
A command for Templars to strip someone of protection from crimcode and put a bounty on said character. Have them be able to claim the bounty by offering the character's head or body to an NPC somewhere public, like the Dome, the Dragon Temple, or maybe just the Gaj.

They should be able to do so in person, or to anyone they have established a link over the Way to. Other templars should be able to clear your bounty. Give artist characters work drawing up wanted posters with shorthand for how much they're worth, like tally marks for every small.

having been involved in bounty claims in the past, I think that this might over-code the fun drama behind "getting paid" and "claiming" with the uncertainty of identifying a criminal and such taken out of the equation -- making life feel a little too cheap in the process also.

So, while there definitely needs to be improvements to the crim code that can better allow bounties to work, or better allow the soldiers in a city to react to a wanted criminal, I am unsure I want it to be a fully automated system

Even removing the automated portion of this would be a really good idea, I think. So long as Templars do not abuse it.

Templars can already strip someone of protection of the law by making them perma crim flagged. Afterwards, it's free for all.

Oh god no. The deck is already stacked against criminal characters.

Only when the PC in question is in their presence. If the PC bailed it.... tough luck for the Templars.

I have to agree here. Want to put a bounty do it on the rumor boards. No pc bounty hunters? Too bad.

That's not really true.

Gonna give a reason why?

I can imagine one reason would be that Templar / AoD Sergeant+ PCs could go through virtual resources ICly and wish up for a particular individual to have staff use the 'incriminate' command on the criminal in question, regardless if they are currently in the city-state.

In example, some criminal decides to start running away before they have a PC toss a crime-flag down on them.. And they are already half-way to Red Storm or some Northern game-region. Because sadly, speed-walkers do exist (I may or may not of speed-walked away from confrontations early on when starting with Arm). OR, an individual is reported for so many crimes without an alibi, several/many witnesses giving testimony, and now PC templars/sergeants feel like they are in the mood to declare someone a known criminal. So. Situation gets wished up / requested on, staff gets the rundown and decide whether or not this individual should be widely known by authorities as a result of players interacting with the virtual world.

It's something that happens and will hopefully continue to happen. It makes sense thematically as well, for someone to suddenly return somewhere to find out that they are now a criminal! Who named them a criminal? Who knows! It can make for a fun plot, though.

I am whole heartedly against perm crimflagging PCs for a couple of reasons. It doesn't foster roleplay at all, it's basically an "us" vs "them" PVP mentality which I am against. It is also very unrealistic to have a perm flag on you because soldiers can't constantly look for you, virtual or not. Only in the most extreme of circumstances would I support it: runaway mul slaves or half-giants I would support it, they are just too easy to identify at the gates. Humans/dwarves/elves/half-elves are far more populous to justify the perm flag on them.

For those who are unaware if you do perm flag someone they can't go anywhere near the open gates of a city without getting smashed by all of the soldiers present.  It's just unrealistic that the soldiers would immediately be able to identify the person hooded/masked. And on that note, bring back hidden mdescs/keywords when masked, it was a lot of fun for any who remember those days.

I think permflagging is fine (speaking as the frequent victim of said system), but I'd like the system for obfuscation of your features to be more robust.
