Title: Stalker/Scout - Some thoughts
Post by: Cerelum on April 14, 2019, 11:32:36 PM
So being the guy who played a Ranger A LOT.

I find myself wondering about the Search command and Scout and Stalker, which if I am reading into the class helpfiles correctly are supposed to be the outdoors self-sufficient classes.

Being that there are so many hidden areas outdoors and in the world in general, I wonder if it would be too much to ask that they get the search command?

Or is that only a city search thing?

Because there are a handful of places I know that HAVE secret exits, but unless you get told what they are, you can't actually use them, because there is no command that allows you to see them.

Just a thought, what do you folks think?

I know of atleast 2 'general nak area' outdoor areas with hidden rooms, I don't see why Stalker or Scout shouldn't get search.

If it were me, I'd give Scout and Stalker up to Journeyman cap.

Adventurer.

Damnit, I didn't even look at that one... UGH.

Edit: Take it back, I did, it looked too merchanty and not enough rangery.

Edit2: I take it back again... I think it would be an interesting balance.  Adventurer seems like the perfect mix between stalker and scout now that I look at it.

Well the more you know.

Honestly, Adventurer is the one class I haven't tried yet, but paired up with something like, say, Swordsman? Seems absolutely bonkers. Practically an old-school ranger and an old-school warrior rolled into one with some extra buff chad abilities, balanced for fun for everyone.

Huh, would giving them to Stalkers be too OP or something, since that'd make them too good at going around, finding secrets?

I was always under the impression that there are almost no 'search'able things in the game, and that they're a relic of the days of yore--did I have totally the wrong idea?

There are a few "search" things in game (think water cave) but there aren't SO many that you'll be finding secrets all over the place.

The unfortunate part is, nothing will tell you there is a secret button or switch or anything, until you search. And you may need to search 4-5 times before it comes up. I've found hidden trapdoors that lead to extensive tunnel networks, false floors, all sorts of things. But in Allanak, publically, I can only think of .... one in the entire city? Maybe there are more!
