Title: Getting the skills to use better armor?
Post by: RiftTalon on May 19, 2017, 11:32:50 PM
I've found some armor in shops that have been too heavy to use and whatnot. How would I go about being able to use these heavier items?

This may not be a function of your characters skills.  Some items are sized for folks bigger than you (like half-giants) or are simply too heavy for you to be able to use effectively.  It's not likely you'll be able to grow into them.  Not impossible, just unlikely.

Think of it like a suit of plate armor built for the Mountain.  It's just not something that you're going to be able to use unless you're the Mountain.

In further explanation:
There are coded stats that your character comes with. Strength is one - but endurance is another. Even if you could wear it - it might be so heavy, that every step you take costs you stamina points. You could end up exhausted and needing to rest, just by moving 3 rooms away. And that's even if you drop your pack and waterskin and food and cloak.

Some folks who want heavy armor might pick and choose only specific items. Typically head and neck, with torso a close third. That way they have a chance of making actual use of it, without sacrificing much-needed movement points. But again, that's only if your coded strength can bear the item in the first place.

While some characters want as thick, heavy, and cumbersome as possible, others like being as unburdened as possible. There was a city-elf Kuraci Fist member once, if I remember right, who typically just wore a loincloth.

Most people want something inbetween the two :)

FYI to RiftTalon & all other new players: Gage Gritshaw was a PC, the Arm version of a cross between Chuck Norris, Steve McQueen, Mr. T, and just a tiny smidge of Fat Bastard tossed in for extra comedic effect.
