Making a distinction between "common" crafts and unrepeatable ones was also a smart move. I hope it helps players feel some extra emotional attachment to their weapon crafts... and other things, I guess. But come on, you know we're all going to want a unique heirloom weapon to win fame with and pass on to the successors. There ain't no norse sagas written about Epic Sofas. ;)
